Passenger panic as hot Jetstar plane stalls on tarmac | The Courier-Mail
A PASSENGER has revealed her fear at being stuck on a hot plane with 116 other people while a pilot attempted unsuccessfully to start it.
The incident occurred on board flight JQ843 from Hamilton Island to Sydney at 1:50pm on Friday.
Traveller Lepa Flaiban said passengers were stuck on the hot, stuffy A320 aircraft while the pilot tried to start it.
“The plane had no air conditioning and the heat at Hamilton Island was unbearable,” she said.

Here we go again... Must be a slow news day!

This is probably the best overdramatisation yet. Love it.

Ms Flaiban said the passengers started to panic after being told there was something wrong with the plane.
“Everyone was very upset on board and very nervous

And the plane hadn't even left the gate/standoff bay!!!

So they got a different aircraft (the BNE aircraft) to take the flight down to SYD to avoid curfew issues, yet, according to the nonews expert (ie the passenger):

... said the approximately half the passengers from the flight decided to book with Virgin Blue instead.

Really? So half the passengers did their bucks and forked out more to fly DJ .... when the flight was delayed a mere one hour ......come on get real.

When will all this media sensationalism/tripe end?

I think this happened a couple of weeks ago when I was at said island!
The Brisbane flight was 4 hours late... and I tell you waiting in the checkin area no a/c and a beer costing $9!!!

I would be pissed!

They sure do love that stock photo of that chump pointing at the rear of VH-JQG.

I wonder who that is....

Remember dajop that people will always complain if the aircraft is late, especially one hour. Of course no one will fly an unsafe plane, but the argument is that why was the plane allowed to be unsafe in the first place.... (and we've debated this many times before).

I suppose they would be demanding complimentary refreshments as well, though I doubt that even this delay is long enough to qualify for compensation under EU regs.

All I can say that it is just as well it wasn't Brampton Island and Rose and John-now they would have put on a show!

I think the best thing we can do is stop reading these stories - i'm sure they track that this kind of story is generating so many clicks and thus find more to publish as it generates website traffic.

Half the clicks are probably from those here who then bag out nonews.....

(self included in that last bit.....)

Every time I read such stupid articles, I think and laugh at how Rupert Murdoch is set to introduce charging for online news by June 2010, which will hopefully reduce the number of similar articles in the public domain...

Only 4 more months ;)

As for the article, it is the usual stream of NoNews Ltd behaviour:

- An over-excited passenger who seems to exaggerate.
- A journo who has little clue about the topic they're writing about
- An over-eager newsroom who wants to shock the general public.
- A beat-up against a well known brand.

At least the online tide is turning against similar articles. One just needs to read the comments readers submit against articles like that to realise people are sick of such pathetic journalism.

You'll find sex, and coughie stories get more clicks!

The pilot tried five times to start the aircraft and the plane wouldn’t start. We were then asked to leave the plane so they could start the plane manually.”
I can imagine the scene in the coughpit,
Pilot: "Damn, this thing won't start,I've probably flooded it,hey Charlie go and ask a couple of the SLF back there to give us a push will ya'
