Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, but couldn't find anything on a search. I'm about to book a OW Award in J for my girlfriend and I, rough routing PER-LHR-NYC-YVR-PER with numerous segments in between to make it all possible. Just wondering if there is any way of checking (or estimating) comparative taxes for each airline without dummy booking the individual segments on the QFF website?

I'm mainly interested in sectors where there are more than 1 airline flying (AA looks cheaper than BA from LHR to NYC by about $125 each), and in particular, CX vs JAL vs QF vs BA?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers,
Michael

It would not be easy to do as the final calculation depends on the whole itinerary priced from Australia and not the individual segments.

If you are going to use all 16 sectors and 5 stopovers then I would budget ~$1,000 per person maybe more. Just to give you an idea I paid ~$935 last year for a routing of SYD-MEL-LAX-WAS-STL-ORD-LAX-ATH-LHR-FRA-HEL-ZRH-HEL-BRU-LHR-HKG-SYD.

The choice of carrier should make no difference in the taxes and fuel surcharges calculated by QF. Don't forget that QF will add on their own fuel surcharges for each long haul sector regardless of how the actual airline flown prices their airfare. The only exception is sectors within the USA and Canada which QF cannot add a fuel surcharge just genuine airport taxes.

Also any non-EU departures from LHR, unless used as a transit point, will incur a premium surcharge. I think it is something like £80, could be more now.

If you don't want to spend the time on the QF website then why not call the QF service centre and give them a sample routing and an excuse to check availability and then ask them to calculate the taxes and fuel surcharges for the routing. I did this a number of times before finally booking a Oneworld RTW award last year.

Thanks for the help John, $1000 or so is roughly what I was expecting so will give the QF service centre a call and work it out that way.
