I want to carry two large boxes (950 mm square) as oversized baggage as part of my checked-in baggage allowance on an Air NZ flight from Vancouver to Auckalnd later this year. The boxes will each be within the allowable weight limit.
From the Air NZ web site:
"Allowance: 2 pieces, max combined weight 46kg (100 lbs)2 pieces"
and this about oversize baggage:
"The maximum length per piece on jet aircraft is 2.5 metres however this may be reduced depending on the width and height of the item.
If your oversized item is not one of the examples listed above and the width is over 1 metre, we recommend that you check with our specialist Air NZ Cargo team at to ascertain if your piece will fit on our aircraft. You will need to supply the length, width and height of your item."
From the above it seems I can take the boxes as oversized baggage but I don't want to turn up at Vancouver airport and told I can't take them.
I've rang Air NZ a couple of times and they will not give me a definite yes or no about this.
Will the only thing stopping me taking them be lack of space on the aircraft? Anyone else had problems with oversized baggage not being allowed on board as checked-in baggage?
thanks
