I'm due to arrive in Paris by train at Gare De Lyon at 1930 on 6 May before a flight the next morning leaving CDG at 0925.

Definitely don't want an airport hotel as would like to take in a site or two and eat in the city (have been to Paris before so no must-sees)

Hilton Camille Gare De Lyon seems a reasonable option (at AUD400 is at the upper end of my favoured price-point) to drop bags and go out but wondered if anyone had been there or has a better idea.

Not a problem to take a taxi but would rather not take Metro/bus with case

Holiday Inn Gare De Lyon is not available

I'm HH Gold, IHG Plat Amb, Marriott Gold, Accor Silver though not committed to a chain

Thanks

I missed this at the time or would have helped, sorry. Where did you end up staying?

Thanks, I did go for the Hilton Camille. Worked really well for me. Moments from Gare de Lyon and Metro. Staff were superfriendly. Pics in my TR

Oh I recall seeing the start of that trip report because you really helped me out when I flew JR to CDG a few weeks later and I was thanking my lucky stars for it. (But then couldn't recall who'd posted so that I could return and let you know.)

I was asked what PD drink I'd like and I asked for the Vintage champagne the Flight attendant said they didn't have one, only the Laurent Perrier, and I replied, "are you sure, I'm positive you have a vintage Charles Heidsick Rosé. He went away and returned with the rosé and it's one of my new favourite champers. I'd never have tried if it weren't for you. So big thanks from me for the detailed trip report :D

(And good to know re Hilton C - I know the area fairly well but not so the hotels. It was going to be one of the ones I'd have directed you to though. As for the French hotel breakfasts you encountered and Paris hotel staff - very typical!)

"from" 89€ (in June it's up to at least 259€ for the Paris One)
Yeah.. if I can I try and book in advance… usually been pretty good to get €89.

Something’s up with hotel prices in Europe this summer… even Premier Inns around London are asking for £200 upwards for a lot of June and July… £100+ over the usual asking price per night. And not just for the weekend of the coronation… all summer!
