Hi, i am a newbie so please be gentle ;)

i travel fairly regularly & need to be in contact with the office - i am looking at getting a new phone but will only need it for when i am overseas, have been looking at prepaid as i dont really want to fork out when i dont have to,

when i last looked into it i couldnt have roaming on a prepaid have done a bit of research now & still am not sure
i will need something that will work in china , singapore , bali, vietnam & cambodia as well as rural WA
am i better getting a travel sim card & an unlocked phone?? was hoping to get a decent phone so i can email from it meaning i wont have to travel with my laptop to save on downloads & not have huge fees etc i will set up a new email which i can have relevant urgent emails sent to.

is this cost effective or am i better of taking a laptop?
anyone got any advice ?

thanks in advance

Hi pootle, welcome to AFF!

You'll probably find these threads contain most answers:

http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/com...-internet/pre-paid-sim-data-europe-22006.html
http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/community/communication-and-internet/pre-paid-sim-card-us-5516.html

There's a lot of pre-paid services out there that offer you global roaming (and some that offer you two numbers and ways for people to call you whilst overseas that do not have them incur long distance charges to reach you).

Those two threads refer to US and UK, but a lot of the products mentioned in there are global products so will work in more than just those two areas (I know ours works in all of them but have a look around and see what works for you).
