"oneworld" award (132.4K/249.6K/318K/455K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

MNL-NRT/NRT-MEL-SYD-PER/PER-SYD-DOH-HEL/HEL-HKG-PER with the SYD-DOH-HEL on QR was the 42858PHP
SIN-NRT/NRT-SYD-PER/PER-SYD-DOH-HEL/HEL-HKG-PER with one less QF leg, same otherwise, $2063SGD.

Edit: fun fact, a similar run ex DPS comes to about $2700 AUD for 2pax:
DPS-HKG-NRT/HND-SYD-PER/PER-SYD-DOH-HEL/HEL-HKG-PER at 28323400IDR.

Out of curiosity, does your itinerary not breach the max one stopover in one city rule (PER)? Or is ok because you finish in PER and it doesn't include the end city as a stopover (even though it is not the origin city of the ticket)?

Haven't booked it yet but it seems to price correctly (that is, it doesn't error out before going to the pricing page). Worst comes to worst I'll add on a domestic QF leg and not show.

You are allowed two transits and one stopover in the same city. The way I read the OP's itinerary, it's one stopover in PER. The last stop (PER) would be considered the end of the award and the mileage back to the starting point would be counted; but it wouldn't void the award unless another flight was added that left PER more than 24 hours after arriving.

Of course if you had to call to book, it's anyone's guess.

What the best way to search for AY availability? Cant get anything to show up on qantas website, but im sure ive seen some before?
Im trying to avoid using BA but are they the only option from JFK to Amasterdam? (via lhr). I know I can get AA to LHR from from there seems only BA?
Also trying to get to any of the greek islands or Athens from munich. I know AY do via Helinski but it wont even let me put helinski in on the qatas website?
This is the plan to book
ADL-HKG
HKG-LHR
JFK-AMS
AMS-VCE
MUC-Mykonos, Corfu, Santorini, Athens etc
Greece-doha-adl
Qatar fly MUC to Mykonos but goes via DOH which seem not worth it!
So experts any way to do the above avoiding BA please? Or do I just need to suck up the BA taxes?

I'd be using a BA executive club account to search. Consider going via a different airport (BOS, MIA etc) to HEL.

Are you logged in and do you have use points selected? Helsinki appearing fine for me.

Mine is working fine - partners do appear and disappear in IT glitches from time to time, but perhaps there is simply no availability other than BA for that leg. Make sure you're selecting 'pay with avios'.

Getting through my booking - and can not find any AA Business class across the Atlantic. This doesn't seem to be a route issue, as I have searched on multiple routes and multiples dates and AA just seem to not give QF any business class seats.

As everyone knows the abundance of business class awards with BA is fairly massive.

Spoke to QF the other day and they gave the reasons of ''maybe not available yet'', or maybe ''AA give the seats to their members first''.

So my question to this forum is - do you think AA don't give Qantas any business class awards? Or do QF push everybody to use BA because of the high surcharges (which QF may be able to take a higher percentage from). Or is it purely that as a lowly Bronze status holder, these AA flights are only available to higher Gold or Platinum status holders?

Two things:
  • AA Business Class seats have not been showing on the QF website for a while (look on the AA website or Expert Flyer);
  • Not sue when you preferred dates are but remember that AA only release seats at 330 days.

As said above search on the AA website.

Economy MileSAAver = Economy Reward Tickets
Business/First MileSAAver = Business Reward Tickets

Anytime tickets are not available under classic rewards.

Trying to look at a plan for our flights next year for two in J. I have never booked one of these before, so quite nervous.
My rough plans are as follows:

SYD-DUB I think this leg is doable via HKG
DUB-LHR
LHR-INN
INN- VCE This will be a land sector
VCE- MAD
BCN- SYD This may be the hardest leg to get home?

I will need to book the first leg within the next few days. I will book the remaining legs all at once hopefully when the final leg home becomes available.
Will these flights and routing fit into the rules. Do I have to include at least 1 QF flight?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

No, also you could consider QR to get to the UK

Thanks for your reply. Thats good because finding QF is very hard.

I did consider QR but when I looked back over the last couple of months there was absolutely no QR J and in that 2 month period only one flight in economy. CX seems to have the most availability, not a lot of that either, so it is a bit worrying getting closer to booking the first flight.

Thanks for that - yes AA website shows a few flights, but not much - certainly very little direct US to EU - ended up choosing BA (boo club world, but will take what we can get) to get from ORD to BRU, worked out at around $350 per person in surcharges.

5 flights booked, 5 to go - yay!

There are plenty BA bus redemption tickets available from HR to US cities.
I have booked 2 seats round the world (one world) for 2019, june/July. I had 2 seats last year on bus class as well. Same cities.

Hardly any Bus class flights available from syd to london even staying overnight in transit points.

I wish Qantas allow standby for any future available award seats rather than checking them daily..

Well done Siri on your bookings.

I have been looking every day for SYD to LHR, nothing in business.
So today I bit the bullet and booked my first leg of flights, a couple of days ahead of what I originally thought but just glad to get the first leg booked and locked in.

SYD - DUB x 2 in CX J, departure date 28 August 2019

So first one down, fingers crossed for the rest.

Trying to book the first part of a 280K J Award & keep getting (4002 [7597]) error when it does the processing before the payment page. Will it have to booked online or is there another possible reason for the error?

PER-HKG-DOH Cathay & Qatar Airlines
Stop for less than 24hrs
DOH-CDG Qatar Airlines
Overland sector
BUD-DOH-SIN Qatar Airlines

Other question I had was is 3hrs enough time for the transit stage at Doha?

Thanks for any advice

I have a feeling your trip is not following round the world paths... try to add BUD to any US city and then to SIN and see what happens ..

Is HKG-CDG on QR available as a single leg?
If not, you wont be able to marry HKG-DOH to DOH-CDG with a <24hrs stopover, even if the legs are available separately
