With cash FJ ticket on FJ BNE-NAN and then QF award on FJ NAN-DFW you will be subject to FJ t&c's for interlining bags on separate tickets. Nothing to do with Qantas or Oneworld. For OW airlines each have there own rules for interlining.

I cannot find what FJ's rules are for interlining bags on separate tickets.
You couldld try to phone FJ, but phone agents (for any airline) often say no to be safe.

Whilst this isn't any official policy, generally speaking most full service airlines transiting through their main hub are quite likely to accomodate you, however you do need to let them know at your first check in that you have another flight booked with them. Often they'll do all your stuff with check in/boarding pass etc for your second flight too. You can also try flyertalk forums to see if there are other people that have used FJ in such a manner.

Urg, I have a similar situation with QF (reward) and QR (paid). I thought I'd be able to get away with it because they are both OWA so I'm glad I read this thread.

Hopefully QF's policy to check through to other OWA where there is a mix of paid and reward flights will carry given I'm flying with them first. https://www.qantas.com/agencyconnec...on/interline-and-through-checked-baggage.html
Yes, but you have to find an agent who is able to through check the bags on separate tickets… that’s becoming a little more difficult given some of the reports in other threads.

Policy says ‘yes’, but practical limitations can thwart that.

My assumption would be if the op is going FJ metal to FJ metal then there shouldn’t be an issue requesting check thru of luggage.

Just present both tickets to the agent in AU and request politely. Could be wrong.

Not had an issue in the past checking luggage thru OW to OW with a polite request at the counter.

The policy of BA is not to interline bags on separate PNR's, Even BA to BA.
The policy of AA is not to interline bags on separate PNR's, Even AA to AA.

Thanks, I will come back after and advise the outcome

There used to be a policy that oneworld members would through check luggage to other oneworld members, regardless of if the connecting flights were on the same PNR or not.

Some of the airlines complained about this policy, speculation about who would pay the costs of a miss connection between flights on different tickets that otherwise wouldn't have had rebooking protection requirements. The complaints lead to the alliance changing the rule to "do what you want". This results in some airlines refusing to through check across PNRs at all (AA, BA), others doing so in limited, defined events (QF) and others doing through check whenever asked.
This could result in bags getting through checked in one direction, but not the other (eg, JL checking through to AA, but AA refusing to check through to JL on the return)

It may not be a case of the ground staff at check in having an option to do it or not. Some airlines have blocked the possibility of cross PNR through checking by removing the option from their check in systems. Other airlines may allow it, but the staff member has no idea how to do so.
