One world baggage question?

Hi folks,

I have booked an award seat to BKK for late May in J class on Qantas departing SYD,thinking about flying onward to Colombo with Sri Lankan airlines,i understand they will be joining One world in April so when i check in at SYD will they be able to check by bags through to Colombo even if the journey is on two separate bookings?
I arrive at 16.35 and theres two flights leaving for Colombo at 18.55 and 21.10 so eyeing up the earlier flight if they can.

Qantas will only through check on separate PNRs if its One World so its likely:
