I am trying to find flights using a classic award from Cancun to Buenos Aires. They are available for 36,000 points but you have to connect through either New York or Miami. My question is if I wanted to stay in New York or Miami for 1 week and then fly to Buenos Aires can I do that without having to book a multicity that would cost extra points?? This is assuming there are available classic award flights on the day I would like to leave either New York or Miami. I'm guess this would have to be done via the telephone? Thanks

No this is not possible. Your one way journey will end when you stay in Miami or New York (or anywhere for that matter) for more than 24 hours. This is how QFF calculates award redemptions regardless of whether you book online or by phone.
