We would like to drive from Nice to Vienna to hook up with River cruise in August. The cost of renting a vehicle is reasonable, but the one way drop fee is around $ 600-$ 700. Does anyone have any info as to how to minimise this fee, or know of any oneway rental companies .Thanks

I used Holiday Autos in North Sydney to book a one way rental Nice to Paris. It took them a few searches in their system to find something (I couldn't find it on their website) but they were able to book me a Europcar one way booking for less than Europcar wanted to charge me for a direct booking for Nice, returning in Nice. There was no one way fee in the rate (just a daily rate).

The person I spoke with was Kate Garrod.

One thing to be aware of is their merchant account is in the UK, so if you pay on certain cards (HSBC, ANZ and Commbank issued cards) you will get hit with a bank overseas transaction fee.

I drove from Paris to Frankfurt via Florence last October. I had the car for 14 days in total and the one way drop off fee was less than $200. Initially it was going to be about $600, but through advice I read here on AFF, I booked through Argus Car Hire instead of direct with a car hire company. Argus are an aggregator, so they find the best price for you. My car ended up being from EuropCar. Everything went very smoothly and I wouldn't hesitate using Argus again.

I have no affiliation with them, just a happy customer! I can't post links yet, but you can find Argus at www dot arguscarhire dot com

We drove Paris to Barcelona last year over a 10 day period from Europcar and the total cost was around $700.
