Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere or should be in a different thread.... am hoping the collective wisdom of AFF can assist, as I generally take the advice of a travel agent with a large grain of salt! **

I'm flying MH to KL and then onto Kota Kinabalua (SYD/KUL/BKI/KUL/SYD). I prefer points and status credits to go to VA, as I don't fly enough with MH to make any use of the status credits I get for my 2-3 trips per year.

According to VA, I get status on the international sectors, but the Web site states:
"^Velocity Points can not be earned on domestic flights within Malaysia or between Malaysia and Singapore and Brunei."
(KUL/BKI would be classed as domestic.)

I've put my VA number against the booking, but am wondering if I can have the domestic sectors (KUL/BKI/KUL) credited to my MH account.

(** The travel agent recommended that I book with my VA FF number, and ask MH to put my MAS FF number against each domestic leg on check-in.)

Not a big deal, but a) I hate not maximising points-earning on principle and b) I'm curious as to whether points & status credits are linked to a single PNR or to a specific flight/sector.

Thanks in advance...

Points and status credits are linked to each flight number.
You can credit to different FF accounts for each flight if you wanted to (although if a flight consists of two sectors but one flight number, eg, QF005, SYD-SIN, SIN-FRA you can only credit to 1 FF account as the flight number does not change).

When you check in ask them to change the VA FF number to the MAS number for the domestic flights.

On complicated routings and short transits this can be a bit risky though (although there has been occasion when flights have ended up being credited to two carriers due to this sort of complexity but it is not likely). It depends also on whether you need your number in the booking for seating allocations etc.

If you don't need your status to get a seat allocation or anything else then you can drop any FF number from the booking and just claim after the event. I play a long game when it comes to FF points/status so I personally dont get too concerned about points not crediting for a while.

Thanks - good advice. Seats on longer sectors have been allocated, so don't need either ff number for seat allocation. Probably a lot safer to put in 2 claims after the flights. thanks simongr and fantic125 - appreciate the advice!
