Got a bizarre question.
Upcoming trip MEL>HBA with 5 PAX. One can no longer make it.
Rebooking fees are just as much original sale fare, so that's a miss.
If only 4 of us check in, will this lead to complications either outbound or inbound? Return flight is booked on same booking.
Worst case scenario, we find another PAX and pay a name change fee

Thanks in advance guys and girls

Call JQ up prior to the flight, ask them to split the itinerary (I.e one for the 4 traveling and one for the non-traveller). Once they have done this, the none traveller can sort their own ticket out without causing your traveling party any issues.

If Mickey Mouse can no longer travel JQ would not know if Donald Duck takes his place provided Donald does his own checkin via phone/web check/airport kiosk where he doesn't show ID.

If it was a sale fare & you paid a plus bundle for a 'free' name change you would still be up for the difference between the sale fare & what the new fare would cost which could be substantial.

Except if it's a full flight with standby pax.

You'd want to pre allocate the seats for the five of you so that 'Mickey' had a middle seat in the same row as the rest of the pax otherwise you'll get something like 7ABCD with the only spare seats being 18E or 29B.
