Hi guys,

Just seeing if anyone out there has experienced my situation and has any thoughts to share.

I have a 1 way JQ flight from DPS to Mel coming up. It is booked as a Starter with Plus bundle for 2 passengers (my partner and I). My partner now has to change her travel plans and won't be traveling on this ticket or even on JQ.

Since the fare is not refundable I was planning on just showing up as normal and checking myself in and hopefully ending up with a spare seat next to me.

If I do this will I have any trouble checking in and boarding my flight? Should I contact JQ in advance to avoid any issues or could this lead to further issues? I certainly don't want to jeopardize my own flight and loose both fares either.

Any advise would be helpful.

Cheers,
Damien

No guarantee you'll keep the seat next to you.

Also, unless you've purchased a companion-type fare (ie. pricing on one seat is linked to the purchase of the second) you should be able to check in and travel as normal (and your partner will forfeit her fare).

If you check in late there's a good chance you'll have a spare seat unless seat offered to anyone on standby.

Given you have a plus bundle, have you considered changing her flight? There is no change fee on a plus bundle and you just pay fare difference, so try and find a fare the same or cheaper than you paid. She could use it on another trip either back from DPS or combine with another ticket from elsewhere for a cheap way back from Asia to MEL.

Does anyone know if there is any limit of the number of times you can change a JQ plus bundle fare or if there is a time limit? I.e. could OP change to November now, then later change it to, for example, May 2018 when the tickets go on sale?

I don't think there is a limit. I had originally planned to fly to RAR while a friend is there for his grandfather's 80th birthday in August 2016 and made the booking for the return flight from RAR to AKL back in June 2016. However the celebrations were brought forward as the grandfather was in poor health but I couldn't make it. Initially I moved the flight from August to October 2016 thinking I may still go on my own for a holiday. Then I decided not to visit at all and called JQ to ask for a refund with the excuse that the grandfather was ill and had in fact passed away. I had to submit a request online which was rejected as per the fare rules. I moved the flight to a future date when the fares were cheapest so I didn't have to pay a fare difference and may have moved it again one final time to April 2017. In the end, there was a schedule change and JQ provided me an option to cancel the booking with a full refund so I got what I wanted!

Just a quick update on this topic and hopefully something that others may find useful in the future....

I rang Jetstar and they were able to split my partners flight onto a seperate itinerary. I was then able to change the date of her flight until later in the year, in the case that we take another Bali trip... and my flight remained as it was. Much simpler that I expected and the Jetstar CSA was more than helpful.

Good outcome all around.
