It's ok to assume the space is yours but when the FA asks you to move your bag up you don't argue, you do it!
I witnessed many cases of pax trying to "protect" their space while arguing with FAs during the process. It can be either about a small bag placed under the seat or a laptop in the front seat pocket. It's really annoying when some people think they know better and refuse to listen to simple instructions.

Yes. Of course. But I'm referencing the automatic assumption that people are being difficult people from the get go.

I wouldn't assume that and would just say to the person that the bag needed to be in his/her foot space. If that yielded no satisfaction then it's a different matter. The doggy do would be the next resort.

All you baby-boomer parents got a lot to answer for raising Gen-Y kids who now think they are special and have rights.

You clearly haven't ever been on a caravanning holiday and had to interact with the "Grey Nomad" set. Now there is a group of people who display the "I'm always right", "I am special", "I know everything", "I have more rights because I'm old and wise" and my favourite, "Laws are made for idiots and should only be treated as guidelines" (yes that has been said to me).

Of course my statement is a gross generalisation, as was yours. Those kind of people are found in every generation and in every demographic. What about those forbears who devised the White Australia policy? They seemed to genuinely believe people with lighter coloured skin of Anglo origin were somehow more special and deserved more rights.........I don't think they were gen-y kids yet that single policy destroyed families and lives and made life a misery for so many people.

It's interesting you mention grey nomads. In recent years I'm driving less in peak periods and more during the day. Peak time drivers are predictable in the main. They let you in. You know what they are going to do. They don't drive like they think they own the road.

Now, the rudest most arrogant drivers out there, who never let you in, fail to give way etc are men in their late sixties and seventies. I guess they don't rule at work anymore.

As you said generalisations.As a male driver in his late 60s if I don't let someone in it is because the driver of that vehicle has already demonstrated his or her absolute disregard for al other drivers.
And to continue the generalisations I now find young women drivers to be the worst-apart that is from the holidaying Victorians on the Sunshine Coast.

I watched a woman argue with the QF crew when they wanted her to move her handbag off the vacant business class seat next to her for another passenger whose seat was not functioning properly. Yes she thought her handbag was entitled to a business class seat all the way from Los Angeles to Melbourne. No she had not paid for that seat as the dumbfounded crew members tried to explain to her. An extraordinary performance.

I suspect she was trying to protect her shadow using her handbag. While it's a well known tactic in Y, I never saw anyone attempting to do that in J and then argue with the FA when asked to move it. Some people are unbelievable...

Apart from the total male hoon driver I'd much rather drive on the road with young male drivers than female ones. They never let you in. Actually, I'm pretty sure they don't even see that far past their bubble.

As a result of this thread, if I’m ever in Y or perhaps even Y+ in anything other than a bulkhead seat ...... I think I will now be forever subconsciously protecting / defending my foot well space......... I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.
