Hi guys

I recently got my Australian passport and I'm planning to travel to NZ soon.

My question is: Do they stamp your passport on the way in and out of the country?

Or is it Europe style where you are free travel and immigration doesn't even ask for your passport?

Thanks in advance!!

Ken

You will be required to present your passport at all stages of the journey. This will include a physical check at check-in counters, and either a physical or electronic check at all immigration check-points. Customs may also do a final check of your passport alongside any customs declaration before laving the airports.

Departing and arriving in Australia there is no stamp. Not sure about NZ.

Welcome to AFF!

Welcome to AFF Ken,

On arrival if you use the Smart Gate in NZ then you won't get a stamp, but if you use the normal immigration queues they will.

No they won't be stamping your passport. For the first few years of my passport all I did was MEL-AKLs and it looked like I had never traveled OS according to my passport.

My brother asked for a stamp on arrival into NZ a couple of years ago and was actually refused. They don't stamp Aussie passports.

I asked for my kids first OS trip with shinny new Passports and was refused

Oh the good old days.... when you had to apply for a new passport because all the pages were full of stamps or you could sit down and remember all your trips

Close friend works for NZCS; iirc it's policy not to stamp NZ or AU passports but occasionally does get done if you ask nicely.

I asked for a stamp for my Son's passport and one was produced with a smile! Might depend on what sort of day the customs person is having.

Those were the days! :)

My old passports are like beautiful memory.

My current passport which is about 7 years old, only filled about 6 or 7 pages, but have travelled the most in my lifetime.

Seriously I think even getting a smile from immigration in most places I go is a reason for celebration!
