If I purchase a ticket through NZ's site with a UA operated internal connection in the USA with an NZ flight number, is it eligible for status credits and/or points?

Depending on how many flights you have and the earn rate - you could credit to SQ and then transfer the points to VA ( if the points earned is over 5000 SQ points)
