Hi all , have been reading a lot about how short term accommodation in Manhattan is illegal under 30 days !
I would love to hear about any apartments that our community may have stayed at in the past couple of years as the more i look the more confusing it becomes re the non existent apartments and scams etc.
Even some websites that Google sends you to are dubious according to other travel websites !!
Hotels are great but the 4 of us would ideally love to get an apartment to hang out in - I know it wouldn't be huge but having more than just a room would be good ,

Thanks ,
Paul.

+1 for Airbnb. I used it (for the first and only time) last year for a 10-day stay in NYC, and couldn't be happier with my experience. Friendly and helpful host, well located, big and newish apartment (by Manhattan standards), fully-equipped kitchen plus washer and dryer, and even a residents' lounge with free breakfast in the morning -- all of which represented significantly better value than a hotel in the same price range. Just be sure to pick a place with ample positive feedback...

I don't know your budget but we always stay at AKA Times Square Hotel in a studio apartment, which has a full kitchen, laundry appliances and a separate "den" which we use as a dressing/storage room. That is about US$350 a night and they have one bedroom, two bedroom, penthouse etc for more. Housekeeping once a week. No connection with them, we just love staying there. stayaka.com

+1 Airbnb. You can narrow search for 'whole' apartments, and as usual look at those w' lots of positive comments.

Re: NYC short term appartment accomodation

It is true that in general short term apartment rental is illegal in Manhattan.Just because an apartment has glowing reviews does not make it legal.Sooner or later the authorities catch up and you may be the one who returns to your apartment to find all your luggage on the street-yes this does happen-read TA on NYC apartment rentals, there is a sticky on it.
However there are genuine apartment hotels and apartment rentals such as Oakwood.
