NYC Districts and Hotels with Kids (15yo & 11yo)

Hi,

I'm needing some help with respect to planning and booking an 8 day visit to NYC for Easter 2016 as a part of a wider East Coast Trip.

At this point the options are pretty open, but I have been researching staying in the East Village, Greenwich or Chelsea districts.

Can anyone provide some feedback on the districts outlined above (or others)?

In light of a district recommendations, would people also have an idea on accommodation options which might suit our needs, given that by the time we travel the kids will be: a 15yo (boy) and 11yo (girl) - and neither of them are keen on sharing a bed with a parent or each other. (in short we need 3 beds - even if one is a foldout)

(Side note: you don't realise how good 2 bedroom apartments are in Australia until you start looking for similar ideas in other countries).

Need to know your budget, some people are happy to spend 2k a night others are not.

Ive found trivago, as well as other booking engines work well when searching a particular area. or consider airbnb?

Some good advice given above.

Only thing I would add is don't book apartments on airbnb and the like - short term apartment rentals are illegal in NYC and travellers have often turned up to find they don't exist. Apartment-style hotels are fine, though. Keep your wits about you - you'll have a blast.

Hi Jules,
we spent 6 nights in NYC with my wife and three kids, 18, 16, 14 last December.
We stayed in the Residence Inn Midtown East, which was fantastic.
It was a queen suite with two queen beds and a pull out sofa. Large two rooms with kitchen facilities and a balcony.
All up we paid about USD2500.
Good location 148 East 48th (cross Lexington) which is easy walking distance to grand central station and Rockafeller Centre.
What a the kids into?
We went bike riding in Central Park, theatre and NBA.

also......
if your flight was 1.30am so needing to leave new york city around 9pm I presume, would you just book out that morning and store luggage? and would it cost to store luggage for that long? I started to wonder if it's worth booking the cheapest hotel I can find for that last night so we have somewhere to shower etc. however I don't think any shower is worth that kind of money.
what would you do? pay to store luggage till 9pm?
