Thought it interesting that today some key numbers have been released about the number of FF members in Australia.

Virgin Blue Velocity:
Loyalty program may be spun off | The Australian
"the loyalty program currently had about 1.3 million members and was growing at about 50,000 applicants a month."

Qantas Frequent Flyer:
(From Qantas ASX release today)
"membership passed 5 million and continues to grow at about 1,000 members per day".

Interesting that QF numbers are increasing at 1,000 new members per day considering there is an $82.50 joining fee.

And yes more talk of spinning off FF programs into separate companies. I totally understand that airlines are in no position to manage a frequent flyer loyalty program....

I know my maths is sometimes a little shakey but 1000 new members per day is not the some as 50,000 pr month..

If it is 50K per month that is 50million dollars a year for some red plastic...

The 1000 growth per day was for Qantas FF, the 50000 per month (~1666 per day) was for Velocity.

Oops - but again as per my other post regarding the DJ PE fares and the complexity of the schemes they can't even report the growth in numbers consistently ;)

QF 5 million members + 1000 per day - not bad out of a population of 21 million even if you consider a number of members who are not Australian residents

I bet a lot of these new members live outside Australia where the membership is free;)

Well signed up my Sis and her 2 kids last month and they reside outside of OZ so it's a freebie membership. They are generally not interested in FFP's as they only travel 1-2 AUS-Asia return per year and didn't see the value in any FFP.

However I suggested to sign up to the QFFP anyway as they were travelling QF product anyway and it doesn't cost anything for her and her two kids to join. (And you only require 1 activity per 36months to keep the account active which is an added bonus for those infrequent flyers Or those who don't have a loyal carrier.)

But anyway, their recent flight earned close to 9k points in each account, which she can consolidate into her account anyway (subject to T&C's).

Anyway, that's 27k ff points and a very close freeby flight one way to SE Asia.

I wonder how many of the 5 million + frequent flyers QF have are Platinum members? Does anyone have any inkling of those numbers? Just wondering how important Platinum members are to QF?:D

I am sure we have had this discussion in the past. If I remember correctly it was mentioned that there are around 60,000 QF Platinums.

Qantas reported that they are making profits by selling points to commercial organisations. What is the lowest price for these points?
