Been looking at burning some more QF points on a MEL-LAX flight in Feb/March 2016, for 2 Adults, but seems that I can only get 1 J seat on pretty much any day I have tried.

I check every day at the correct time and can't find anything, MEL/SYD/BNE

Anyone else found this over the past month or so ?

Oh no, that is terrible news. If they start doing that permanently I will be switching to virgin / krisflyer for sure

Well I have been looking for the past few weeks, until then, never had a problem getting 2 X J seats, either as a Gold or Platinum

Currently a Plat and can't get more than 1 seat which is pointless

Have you tried requesting release of a second seat? Should be possible as a WP?

Possible, but just curious if others have seen less FF seats being available to the USA

I will probably ring and request another seat, but I am starting to get sick of QF and the hassle getting FF seats and high taxes

Not always possible to plan a holiday 355 days in advance.

As a result I am starting to fly Virgin again as earning and redeeming FF points through them is a breeze, plus I can use points on SQ and EY :)

With the dollar in free fall the tube must be filling with yanks. If not, they'll be giving away seats soon.

I don't know if this is a change or not, but when requesting rewards Sears to be released (which I do often), I am finding less and less they are being made available.

The agent told me on the phone last week that they can only put a request to release a Business Class seat into the system now if "I" class is available.

This has been the case for some time.

The required classes for the premium desk to request a release are:

First - A
Business - I
Premium Economy - T
Economy - Q

Makes sense. If those aren't available that suggests either revenue management have it wrong, or the flights are selling paid fares rather nicely, and that's the object of the game for them.

i think some people forget the original intention of FF programs were to "give away" (I know that's a joke given QF's charges) otherwise unsold seats, or seats that would otherwise go unsold.

Sure, I get that now FF points are a "currency" in their own right which the airlines are doing much better jobs of extracting maximum profit from.

transpac routes with QF have always been very difficult to get space on due to high paid demand over years, given the competition on nonstop/direct services is only UA and more and more VA, but there's clearly a capacity issue also - hence QF putting on the later flights in 744's.

I'd also suepect the more that deflect to VA/SQ/NZ (whoever) then that's fine, a) the more seats for QFFers to go for and b) conditions will change over at those airlines with the extra demand. IMHO.

That may well be true but nowadays as they are selling the program to the wider community, I think there is some obligation on their part to back up their promises with some actual product.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I see 2 x J BNE-LAX on 10, 17 and 18 Feb

Yes they have now appeared, but MEL and SYD still only 1 or none, as the single seats have sold out!

While I agree the USA route has always been hard to get seats on, it seems to even harder than ever :(

Yep, the USA is the only route I really want to redeem FF points on with QF, as I can never get EK seats to Europe.

With the new VA J seats in the 777s coming online in Nov-January, which should/will be a better product than what is on the QFA380's my desire to earn more QF points is pretty much zero.

I do understand the desire to redeem FF points (me I save them for upgrades in general, but each to their own - some like Toasters :D ) the fact that, a year or so (335 or whatever days :) ) out QF clearly think they will sell more seats based on historic demand.. if i was a shareholder (relax folks, I sold out at a profit :) ) I'd be happy to know that as it suggests higher yield for QF.

Anyway it may well be worth for the OP to grab seats out of BNE then keep an eye open for a better routing to open up out of SYD/MEL perhaps then change? just a thought.

We've redeemed (flown) >60 long haul F & J flights - redeeming is terrific for a family of 4. Also have a decent track record for upgrading - doubt I'll top the 4 x J>F we got on QF11, Dec 2013 :D

We have another 28 long haul award flights booked for this year, early Jan 16 ... 10 of them are F, the balance J. Award flights are simply wonderful!

I hate to think how you earn the points (QFF or otherwise) to spend on these, but it's great that you've had so much value/success out of the system. I guess others haven't - you guys take all the seats!! (kidding!) :)

One dimensional with FF schemes. Have never purchased (directly) points/miles - for the great majority of my FF life we've been earning like everyone else, via flying and CC spend. About two years ago I learnt that you could pay ATO via CC - this has been a wonderful gift!

The best part? 8 of those 10 F flights are FASA - SWMBO & I will earn ~ 1,840SC and 150,000 QFFP ... the JASA flights will secure OWE x 2 for the next 21 months :D
