AA EXPlat for the last three years and have been deciding to let the WP soft land, expected to go from QF Gold to Silver this year, received a surprise when QF Gold card came with a letter stating that I would retain QF Gold this year as a good will gesture,

is this

1. Standard these days not to soft land off QF Gold when QF Plat the previous year
2. Recognising the OWE status from another airline as a gesture to keep QF Gold
3. QF calculating that my code share flights on QF metal still added some revenue to their coffers (rather than BA, MH, CX out of Australia).
4. Combination or none of the above.

QF Gold does save me AC Membership fees, also lounge access on EK marketed flights, so it was a nice surprise.

Status comps are not unusual although there are no definite rules for when and to whom they're offered.

I am a believer in the concept they average your SC over about three or four years.

I do not believe they look at your other FF memberships.

I got an offer from QF after posting AA LTG and continued AA PLT (a while ago) so I suspect it is a combination of flight history and "posting" history.;)

Happy wandering

I've been WP for 2 years and will likely miss requal this year. SC average over the last 3 years will therefore be about 1,000 or so. Expecting a soft landing to Gold - although a comped year of WP would be nice!

I got the same letter and comped SG. I'm similar to you in that I've gone WP-SG-SG, rather than the expected 3rd year drop to Silver. But 2 and 3 don't apply in my case.

There are quite a few reports of it in the last few months. I'm not sure there is any real rhyme or reason to it. Might just be lucky. Maybe fuel prices have spurred a little generosity. Who knows? I'll take it!

The comp for SG (after WP->WP->SG) is likely very common.

Three year averages indeed have been advised as a main contributor.

So, if starting from zip:

Year 1: qualify SG @700, min 3 year average is 233.

Year 2: earn WP. @1400, min 3 year average is 700.

Year 3: requalify WP @1200, min 3 year average is 1100.

Year 4: 200 sc, min 3 year average is 933 - soft to SG

Year 5: 200 sc, min 3 year average is 600 - comp SG
