HI all, sorry if this is a simple answer, but I can't find any flights at all from Australia to new york via the VA website,

I have saved up 83,950 Velcocity points and would love to fly 2 people Perth to New york but can't get the website to show me any options at all, whether we are departing perth or another city in australia. I can fly to Syd/mel stay a night with friends if it makes the flight work, but the issue is that i cannot get the VA website to show me any flights to new york at all?

Thanks everyone I appreciate any help you can give me :)

Unfortunately, that number of points will get one person there but not back (unless there’s cheaper options)?

I can see flights PER-DOH-JFK on Qatar (QR) flights. One way 75,000 points and $344 pp in Economy.

There are some good deals out of Jakarta (and possibly Singapore, Bangkok) to New York. Perhaps use points to get to Asia and look for cheap paid fares?

Cheapest points redemption is 59800 per passenger, each way.

Also recommend using the points to get to Asia and getting cheaper flights from there.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Thanks everyone, I'm also happy to pay for segments, would love to aqquire VA status while doing so, pre covid i recall booking international travel via the VA website to ensure the status credits and partner airlines and everything all worked out. with a destination like JFK i can't make the virgin australia website show me any options leaving australia at all. Am i doing something daft with my request or is there a trick to it?

Award flights showed for me: PER to JFK (on QR). I didn’t search return but I suspect they’re there also.

QR rewards are more expensive than VA/UA rewards. The OP doesn’t have enough points to burn regardless.

If it were me, I’d use to points to get to SE Asia and book paid flights from there.

Singapore, United and (hopefully v soon) ANA flights will accrue status credits and points. I have also found Etihad and Qatar business flights very cheap from Manila and Jakarta.

Australia to US east coast is generally $3k+ in economy at the moment. Absolutely expensive compared to what it had been pre-rona.

I recently booked Jakarta-JFK via Doha on Qatar in business for $2.1k AUD. The fares are out there with some research.

Also whether paid or award flights look for NYC (which covers all NY airports) or otherwise (like on Velocity search engine) you may need to search separately for the three airports (I think), JFK, EWR and LGA.

For a while, VA said to look at partner website for flight routes that VA does not fly to/from.
They (VAi) do not fly to the US anymore, so you would not be able to find any flights to the US on the VA website.
As mentioned by other colleagues above, you have to look at partner websites, and have to find the flights, and call VFF to make a booking for a reward seat/s.
As the others have said, your points bal is a bit too low to make it that far to the US, esp with partner airlines in the mix.
Maybe keep shopping at Coles and build up your FB balance, and do auto transfers of FB points to VFF points.
As long as you keep accruing, the good thing is that VFF points do not expire.
If you have to travel soon/this year/next year, then maybe a rev fare is the only way.
SQ is very good, even in Y, and if you have to sit in Y, both having aisle seats should be ok, when you can stretch your legs if no one is walking by.
