No D-Class available - even if I tried to book 355 days in advance

On January 2nd my travel agent tried to book a flight FRA-SIN in business D-class (19.12.2008). Result: D0 !! That's strange.
Even if we booked at the earliest possible date (355 days in advance, the flight was opened for booking at January 2nd) there was no D class available. It seems that Qantas is blocking the cheaper D-class because of the yield interests.
What can I (Qantas Gold Member) do?
Thanks for advice in advance.

Weird EF shows:

J9 C0 D0 I0 B9 H9 K9 M0 R0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0 X0 E0

I am guessing that flight is either not loaded properly or is just expected to be very busy. CHecking a couple of days either side you have:

17/12 J9 C9 D9 I0 B9 H9 K9 M0 R0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0 X0 E0
18/12 J9 C9 D9 I0 B9 H9 K9 M0 R0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0 X0 E0
20/12 J9 C9 D9 I0 B9 H9 K9 M0 R0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0 X0 E0
21/12 J9 C9 D9 I9 B9 H9 K9 M9 R9 L9 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0 X0 E0

Would an extra day in FRA be doable for the saving?

As 19Dec is a Fri this is usually a peak J cabin business day (also last full business week before xmas).either that or as Simongr says incorrect flight set up...maybe set for a normal Fri and hasnt yet been amended..best bet book alt date and get TA to waitlist the 19th

I just did a check myself in Galileo and im getting D class available:

FRI 19DEC08 FRANKFURT /SINGAPORE *QF
1 FRA SIN 2330#1815 QF 6 J9 C9 D9 I0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M0 R0#744C*E

Perhaps check back with your agent now as it appear to be there ok.

days in advance

E/F is still returning results similar to simongr if you specify QF.

Do not specify an airline and for 7 days you get
Departing FRA on 19/12/08 12:00 AM ± 3 Day(s) for SIN said:
"The requested information could not be retrieved or is not available. This is likely due to invalid input criteria or lack of access to the information from the airline. Please revise the search parameters and try again."

I changed my search for FRA-SYD on QF and received the following for Dec19:
J9 C3 D0 I0 B9 H9 K9 M0 R0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0 X0 E0

It is a week before Xmas as well - I assume there might even be non business type peeps on that flight...

I just rechecked Gal and im seeing plenty of seats in D and C class, it allows me to sell them so shouldnt be a problem, might be an issue with another GDS.

Not meaning to hijack this thread, but I have a similar issue...

Booked on BA16 SYD-SIN 14/01/08 as part of a DAS13, and waitlisted on QF31 (prefer shedule and 744). When I booked, EF QF31 showed D1 yet QF said there was none. Jumped on today, and EF says QF31 D5, and QF says none available......

Any ideas?

Availability can be different from GDS to GDS and EF doesnt, iirc, use Amadeus

Also, Amadeus allows availbility to be different depending on where in the world you check. Perhaps call Qantas in the US and see if they see different availability.

So because it seems EF is based in the US, it could be showing differently..... Hmm so forgive my ignorance in understanding the whole booking engine thingie (I think its GDS), EF is less useful or less accurate to people using it outside the US?

I have generally found it quite good, but am a little miffed by this...

I dunno... I find it ok.... If there is availability shown in EF in the US but no availability where I am, I just call the US

Dave

Thanks for the info Dave.

One last question, will QF in the US change my booking made here??

Hi Jason,

There's definately no D class on QF31, currently there are 5x C Class and 2/6x J Class seats based on Galileo.

2 SYD SIN 1750 2230 QF 31 F2 A1 J6 C5 D0 I0 Y0 B0 H0 K0#744C*E

I've heard of fares quoting differently in the GDS depending on where you are, but never heard of availability being different, though nothing would surprise me.

Good luck with it

Definitely can be; can be very noticeable with BA

Dave

Called the US (CA), and no J, C or D class availability on QF31, according to the unhelpful person I called. Nevermind, hopefully my waitlist will come through...

EF still showing D5...

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Definately J and C available, no D still though, but at least it's still open which could help.

Good luck with clearing your waitlist.

Airlines will load different availability/inventory from different points of sale to support the fare structures they may have there or also to force people to buy seats in certain revenue buckets out of a specific region. Lots of weird and wonderful stuff goes on.......
