No China Eastern reward availability on the Qantas website

China Airlines, a mixed bag now. Some flights they release 1 seats some 2+

Worth a shot, 3 is aways a push.
yeah 3 is a push i know hence i can be flexible with the date. 1-2 days diff is ok. not looking for business, economy is fine.

I just checked SYD to several China cities that China Airlines fly to (Shenzhen, Chengdu, Beijing, Guangzhou). Seems that the 'cheapest' option stops around 19 Nov, with some availability for higher pts until end of Nov. Then Dec has nothing.

Same with to Hong Kong. Except Dec has Classic Plus which I am not interested in.

Worth paying for alerting service? seats.aero etc? not sure whats the best one?

QFF
China Eastern via ??? (Theres a few they fly).
Cathay via HKG,
China Airlines via TPE
Japan Airlines via HND (hard to JP, easier from JP to China)
Malaysian via KUL
Mixed via SIN (QF/BA to SIN then MU to China).
Mixed via AKL (QF to MU)
Mixed via MNL (QF to MU)

VFF
Singapore Airlines via SIN
Hainan Airlin via HAK

These off the top of my head without coming up with weird roundabout routings.
thank you for this.
QFF seems to have limitation to only show up to 19 Nov for 'cheapest' options at the moment. Nothing in Dec. Any ideas when they may drop Dec?

VFF -> Hainan Airline, this one needs to call the call centre, not online, right?
I checked FlightConnections, it says the flight ends in Oct. Is there any pattern when airlines normally put their schedule for the rest of the year?

Yes - same with Capital Airlines and Tianjin Airlines but try online for Hong Kong Airlines

You sometimes need to search in Multi-city effectively.

Go from say SYD > HKG then HKG > wherever.
Similarly for the other airports. QF sometimes gives you married segments and connections. Sometimes they don't.

Also if you have flexible points (aka its with a bank that you can transfer) you can also look at other options.

Right now I'm typing this from HKG doing a CX - CX transfer to Shanghai from Melbourne. But I booked the MEL - HKG leg via Asia Miles (CX) and the HKG-PVG via QFF.
