NEXUS start up in WA

I was reading about that this morning - good to see another operator heading up north to Broome and Kununurra. I'll be watching with interest.

I'd tell you what you can do with that Dash 8 on those long WA routes... but the mods wouldn't be happy

Maybe, but after countless flights on F28's in Row 13/14 where you sat between the engines (and no windows), a Dash 8 is luxury. I wouldn't do it like the old milk run, just in stages, which would be ok - and probably more affordable.

…of course you are, of course. You’ve got the magic ingredient to defeat market forces for aircrew and maintainers, whilst maintaining competitive fares. And you’re going to do it with a smaller fleet so less redundancy. 🤔

At least the Q400s are fast. Competiton is always welcomed, particularly on the PER-GET and BME-KNX-DRW runs. I think they might be too large for the intra regional routes however.

I'm wondering if part of the strategy is for Nexus to replace REX on the regulated routes, Perth > Albany / Esperance /Monkey Mia / Carnarvon

Number of comments about REX's poor performance, they never really delivered to be cheaper the VARA. Though VARA was exiting it's F50 fleet as well.

There's not much alternative at a guess other than Alliance who could use any of their Fokker fleet bu maybe a touch overkill.

I wonder if they will join Velocity. Part of Air North’s upside is the Qantas tie up.

I guess we could see something like the current arrangement between Velocity and Link Airways/FlyPelican?

A proper earn/burn partnership would be much better though.

I could put together a good milk run from Perth to Darwin with those routes.
Mind you, back in the old days of Mickey Mouse Airlines, getting from Kununurra to Peth could involve Kununurra-Derby-Broome-Port Hedland-Karratha-Newman-Perth, as sometimes there were no seats from Port Hedland onwards, so I had to do the Karratha-Newman leg to get home. Several hours in the back of an F28 wasn't fun

I wonder if airnorth will survive on the BME-KNX-DRW run

We’re planning on hiring people who have been rejected by the airlines with jets, and who therefore have few options.

Why are fares always so high intra WA? They keep talking competition etc, but most fights are $200-$300 for each leg.

Perth to Broome/Kalgoorlie are $500 return on all carriers. Really need an airline like Bonza to come in.

Didn’t the airnorth/QF tie up largely die a death a couple of years ago? I know they still codeshare on a couple of routes but used to get Qantas points on TL coded flights also, no longer. Plus they’re competing directly in a few different routes

If this mob’s recruitment strategy is pilots rejected by jet operators…how is that different from air norths? Unless they’re proposing to take the ones rejected by airnorth or failing ground school/line check 🤣 which could be enough for a route or two
