Hi everyone, we are booked on a Coral Expeditions cruise from Milford Sound that goes to the NZ Sub Antarctic islands plus Macquarie Island. It ends in Wellington. We leave on 4th January next year. Assuming the ship will not provide much in the way of clothing I would appreciate advice from anyone who has done this or a similar cruise as to the best clothing to pack. I am particularly interested in getting appropriate waterproof boots and trousers for wet landings and walks through the wet areas on land. Any advice from experienced sub Antarctic cruisers appreciated.

C.Geographer uses a large tender rather than the ubiquitous inflatable and you should mostly get from ship to shore and back dry.
Most of the tracks on these islands are graded and I would expect to get by in light walking boots .
I have always managed with a very light waterproof overpant over jeans or stretchy ski pants.
Invest in a good quality shell tho.. ( not a parka..too hot)…. here a bit of money spent will be rewarded
A really simple solution to the odd wet day or track is a light plastic pull on overboot , I have sometimes just used plastic bags,,,,

thank you for this advice tgh. I have light rain pants and a good English long wet weather jacket so all I might need is the light over boot. We have been on Geographer before and know the tender system. It's generally dry as you say unless the "driver" gets a bit excited in choppy seas. I am hoping Geographer handles the Southern Ocean OK!

Macquarie Island is a gem. Of course part of Tasmania. I am sure you will enjoy the experience.

We are looking forward to that part of the cruise drron. I check out the Macquarie Island webcam regularly too! I'll also be packing some seasick pills for that leg.
