There are some good functions on the new website, like switching between paid and redemption searches, the way of booking stopovers and seat selection at time of booking.

There are some irritating functions like the way the tick box selections sometimes work between "one way" and "return" without really indicating which mode is which.

Over the past few weeks while booking various redemption itineraries to Europe, Vietnam and Philippines I've noticed some perilous functionality of the new site of which people should be aware:

Perilous functionality of which to be cautious.

1. Manage Bookings
Once you are logged-in, this area will display bookings for the active redemptions for this account holder. When booking for redemption nominees, the bookings will show in Manage Bookings as long as there are waitlists on the booking. If the nominee is the only person on the booking and the booking becomes confirmed, then it will not be listed on the Manage Bookings. This nominee booking needs to be searched for using the booking reference. Easy to overlook confirmed bookings made on behalf of others.

2. The order of flight search results
I don't always find these intuitive and imagine sometimes that I have gone close to selecting the wrong flights as I've made different bookings. For instance, a search for one way redemption SIN-REP on the 7th December, will list the 8th December flight first, followed by the 7th December flight. The site appears to sort flights over two days by ascending order of transit time without giving priority to the requested date.

3. Email Confirmations
I've had two confirmed flights come through ready for ticketing but have not received emails. I have received the emails for others. Just another complication and reason to check back at the Manage Bookings. But in the case of this latest one, without a confirmation email and the booking no longer included in Manage Bookings I needed to rely on the notes I manually made in Tripit.

These are not show stoppers but they are certainly more than annoyances.

Back on the brighter side, I did have one waitlist get confirmed and then stalled as the ticketing could not continue as I already had the same nominee confirmed and paid on the same flight. That was a good feature saving a cancellation fee.

And then to top it all of and appreciate why SQ is a superb airline in many respects, tonight after speaking with an agent and resolving my issue I concluded the call. He took the time to do some further research on my proposed family itinerary and then unexpectedly called me 10 minutes later with a proposal to trim 40,000 miles of the redemption by rearranging transits and stopover cities.

Blue skies.
