I haven't flown since May domestically, did VA get rid of their priority counters? So there is no longer any staff service counter for Gold/Plat?

At MEL, yes. There is a priority bag drop area (nearest to T4) but the night I went through it wasn't being policed. Can't speak for the other major ports.

Haven't checked a bag with VA for a couple of years so forgive the ignorance, but catching VA Short-Haul Int'l as part of a connecting itinerary coming up soon.

VA have moved me onto an itinerary that has only 85mins in Melbourne, so I will need to check in for both flights and check my bag all the way through at my port of origin.

How do these recent changes affect that? I'd previously assumed I'd just go to the priority check-in desk to check-in for both flights on the one tix, but given this will require a passport check as they'll be issuing boarding passes for both flights, how does that work if there's no priority check-in desk anymore?

I'm sure there's a very logical answer to this but figured I should ask now, as this topic brought it to front-of-mind.

There are dedicated INTL checkin positions for this specific reason.

Ignorant question maybe, but is VA rolling out kiosks like QF that can only print bag tags? Or do they also handle check in for non-status folk who haven't checked in online?

I still see a lot of flustered infrequent flyers in QF domestic terminals when they discover they can't actually use the kiosks to check in if they haven't done so online.
