Looks like they've also refreshed the Economy PAYG menu from today also...some things added, some things taken away...some price changes too...

Thoughts?

Virgin Australia

Designed by someone who is not a nutritionist or believes in BREAKFAST! Considering its likely most road runners are on an early flight, to me its a continuing glaring omission by DJ when it comes to attracting the business flyer, who may not have time to grab a bite in the lounge!

A $5 bacon and egg muffin with a cold fruit muffin alternative would sell out each flight !

would really only be the saver fare guest who misses out. As the flexi fare meal prior to 9am is currently cereal / muesli bar and juice

Does anyone pay $5 for those tiny boxes of chips? I did one when they had run out of just about everything - they were really nice but the price is a bit hefty. Maybe there was a typo somewhere and they should be $0.50?

Nice to see Cascade on the beer menu.

I agree with the comments on breakfast.

Am I delusional or were the pies previously available on flights over 2 hours (now 3 hours)?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Looks very much like a "change" issue. No coinage needed. As for steep, not really when you compare the flexi fare with the saver fare. (yes I know flexis give more than just a feed).

I still reckon $10 for a spirit and a mixer is steep.
One FA tried to tell me that the mixer cans were "big enough so that you get two drinks".
Well, two drinks if you want to taste just the mixer and nothing else. Two drinks would actually be if the spirit bottle increased to twice its size.
I hate being patronised.
So, $20 for a sandwich and a bundy & cola? I guess it's never been cheap in the first place, but it is steep.

I assume the extra mark-up is to cover the losses from the free coffee, tea, water and booze.

After all the feedback on the menu from AFF over the last several months, I'm quite disappointed this hasn't been addressed. I agree that breakfast is an issue for people. It's also one of those times when people then go, "I got breakfast on Qantas.."

The actual mini spirit bottles are 50ml, so nearly 2 x standard drinks

$10 for a sandwich is steep considering you can get a Footlong sub for sub $10, or a fresh sandwich from a lunch bar for a fair bit cheaper than that. Different products yes.
However going out these days good luck getting a Mixer and Spirit for under $10. I believe Dan Murphy's had the Mini Spirit bottles on sale for around $5 each recently.

And maybe to offset/cover the 5th Cabin Crew member that's now on 737 flights?

Oh come on, could we please just have some plain orange juice? I was just getting use to the Luke Mangan Karmanara (If I spelt that correctly?) juice.

Saver pax takes into account most of the plane though. And we can't assume that only leisure flyers buy saver fares.

Also, often I will prefer to eat on the plane rather than the lounge, it takes up time in the air and makes the plane go faster! ;)

No more glass noodles! (Won't miss them - they were horrid).

Don't like the price increases, but think it is good to have things at the "no change required" levels.

Love the addition of Cascade.

At least now with Business having their own menu, pehaps Flexi food has been changed as well.

Just a wee bit difficult nipping out to Subway mid-flight though. I think most agree the service delivery cost in an aircraft cruising at 30000' is somewhat different to the corner lunch bar!

Just to put it in a bit of perspective. I bought a wine in-flight yesterday. I just checked my receipt and it was $8 (up from $7). I didn't even notice!

I think it's fine. Isn't there free beer in economy on city services between 4pm and 7pm? And now free coffee/tea/water for everyone. Happy to pay an extra couple of bucks for the other stuff as there will be more often than not plenty of times when all you want is a coffee. Changes for the good I say...
