New to VA

Used to be a QFWP for many years. Have never flown VA.

After QF cut the PER-SIN route, I have been flying SQ. Since I have *G status with SQ (KFEG), I booked a VA flight.

What can I expect on VA?

Are VA very strict with carryon bags?

Can I just pick up my boarding pass at the VA lounge in PER like with QF?

Don't expect too much and you will be ok.

I have never had carry on checked but then I don't go overboard.

Shouldn't have an issue picking up boarding pass in lounge.

I've never had or seen carry on luggage being weighed, but provided its not TOO large looking I wouldn't worry.
I always check in online and then pick up BP in the lounge, and they can usually (sometimes) play around with your seating if there are spares available.

VFF is free to join, and you can move points from VFF to KF if you want, its skewed in the same as its not a 1:1 transfer, but with OLCI with VA, you can pick your seat.
If you pick up your BP or checkin in the VA Lounge, you tend to loose the chances of your preferred seat, as your preferred seat might have been taken up by others.
OLCI at T-48 is the best thing with VFF/VA FF, QF only allows T-24.
If you do a VFF account set up, you can I guess (have not done it), but call up VFF and tell them to add your VFF to the booking.
All depends on how you made the booking, with/via SQ/or with a TA in Au.
If fully Au dom flight with VA, and you have a laptop or computer with a printer, I would go into my or your in this case, VFF account and do an OLCI. You can do an OLCI with the 6 alphabet code provided on etix.
You can then pick your seat, prior to 47.75 or so before your Au dom flight.
You can then do a QR code check at the gate.
Because VFF and KF are in the same airline liaison, (not *A though), any points you earn flying VA you can put to KF.
