Hi all,

I am new to AFF, although have been lurking for a little while. Not sure what to put here so I guess I will put a brief Bio.

I'm 21 and live in Sydney, but have also lived in Shanghai, China for 4 years. I have an International background so I have traveled a bit (relatively). I usually go to Thailand once a year and occasionally up to the UK to see relatives, as well as just some fun trips to Singapore, NZ and the like. I am actually flying out to the US/Canada at the end of this month too, which I am looking forward to (shall be Gold in HHonours membership scheme by the end :) )

I love looking for FF point deals, although given my relatively low income, I can't apply for the gold/platinum deals :(

I guess that should do for now. Hope to see you up in the air ;)

Welcome Nate. The background you have should be able to help some of us in the future. :)

We'll see :) From what I've read there are some people who have far more experience than me, but I'll see if I can give more info on anything!

Welcome Nate89.

Sounds like you do your fair share of flying.

Enjoy your time here.

nate89,

Welcome to AFF.

Good to have you on board. :D

Thanks for the warm welcome guys :)

Just noticed you guys have a trip report section. Might well use that ;)

Hi and welcome to AFF nate89.

The trip reports section can indeed be informative...and a good time-waster!

Welcome to AFF Nate89!

Ah, I see you're in Bangkok. How frequently are you there/where do you stay? My parents have a place there and my Mother is Thai (hence why I go there quite frequently) :).

I go there 3-4 times every year. Early on I used to stay in Din Daeng near Victory Monument. Now I stay in Pattaya as that area has some of the best golf courses in Thailand.

I love playing golf at Laem Chabang, Burapha, Old Siam, Siam Plantation (too tough), Khao Keow, Pleasant Valley, Greenwood, Emerald, Phoenix, Eastern Star, Green Valley, St Andrews, Plutaluang, Pattana, Pattaya Country Club, Mountain Shadow, Crystal Bay, Treasure Hills, BangPra. A couple of new ones Great Lakes and Silky Oak I have not played yet.

We have different interests ;) Although I don't mind golf - just haven't had the time lately for it.

If I go anywhere, it is usually down to (near) Rayong and out to Koh Samed. Lovely island, hopefully it doesn't go down the same route as Samui.

Did you ever play in the golf course in the middle of the old Bangkok airport's runways (Don Muang)?

I always thought that was an odd place to have a golf course...

I stayed at Kanary Bay in Rayong when I worked at Map-ta-phut. Nice quiet area with lovely beaches although I am not into beaches as I prefer to play golf.

No I have not played there yet. I would love to be hitting a golf ball as an aircraft is taking off. ;)

Silly question but do you speak Thai?

I would love to learn to speak Thai one day. At the moment I am struggling for time and the best I have been able to do is learn some phrases which are useful in everyday encounters.

Pom pud Thai mai dai....

I'm afraid the phrases I know in Thai that you are unlikely to know would be quite useless to you.
Shut the door. Brush your teeth. Shut up...

The only useful ones would be the obvious hello/good bye and general questions like "how are you", "what are you doing?". Sorry :(

Unfortunately I have never really tried to learn Thai. When I lived in Shanghai I learned Chinese and also studied it at university though :p

No problem or should that be "Mai pen rai"?

One of these days I should try and learn Thai and spend less time on AFF! ;)
