Just got my electronic MileagePlus Statement from UA and in it there was a link announcing that Swiss Air is joining Star Alliance:

Will make it very attractive proposal for anyone wanting to travel to say central or eastern Europe. SIA has a daily flt from Singapore to Zurich.

Apparently Star Alliance has recently been named the World's best airline alliance by Skytrax:

Swiss was recently purchased by Lufthansa. It's not yet a *A member, but expect early-mid 2006. Some *A FFPs may add LX as partner before then (eg Miles & More already has).
