I had my first experience with the new Singapore-based crew in recent days, flying First from Sydney to Singapore.

Both attendants staffing the A aisle were SG-based, but not Singaporean. It's fair to say it was the worst F service I've ever experienced on Qantas.

We're not talking SQ-style service on QF metal, but very green staff who obviously are new to the aircraft, the airline and Australian cultural norms. The basics were lacking, let alone polish or anticipation of need.

Why would you staff your top cabin this way? When I popped upstairs to see a colleague, Business appeared to be predominately Sydney-based crew.

Why would you staff your top cabin this way?
Because:
(1) you can pay them less than you have to pay AU based crew;
(2) you avoid all your existing EBAs and other agreements, so both pay and conditions will be worse; and
(3) SIN based crews will never negotiate better pay and conditions because they won't be represented by AU unions.

I get that but ... if you're determined to pursue this approach ... wouldn't you put your best people in F and the greenist crew in Y?

Mabe they expected the Singapore service culture to come to the fore?
I do find that London based crew in F on LHR-SIN are great: better than AU based crew.
I think AU service culture is adversely impacted by tall poppy syndrome.
