New Qantas partner - Condor

Just noticed the Qantas Points Instagram page just posted a little guessing game .... Looks like Condor will become a new partner soon
some of the hints given ..
1- has a modern fleet of A330 neo
2-Known for their stripey livery
3- one of Germany's leading airlines

This has been in the news in Germany recently:

Condor is apparently in talks with American Airlines about closer cooperation, and wants to join the Oneworld alliance.

I have to say, this would make perfect sense and seems like a win-win for both Oneworld and Condor. Oneworld has lacked a member in central Europe ever since Airberlin collapsed. And Condor is getting squeezed in the German market by the larger Lufthansa - alliance membership could give it better feed and a new point...

may be a sign they will join OW .... Philippine Airlines started a partnership with QF then a few weeks later announced OW

Interesting if it is Condor they’re teasing. AFAIK, they only credit to JetBlue at the moment with EY coming?

So not like there’s a bunch of other OW airlines already in the mix.

I guess it only takes one to start!

Condor looks like they fly mainly to destinations favoured by German tourists, and most of the flights are seasonal: List of Condor destinations - Wikipedia

If they join OW, it would be less like adding Lufthansa and more like adding Air Berlin (or less than Air Berlin).

I am disappointed that Qantas is not attempting to partner with Lufthansa Group, which would have much better coverage.

LH is major part of Star Alliance with SQ, TG, NZ. Why would they partner with QF?

QF interlines with SQ, TG, NZ and LH. There’s many examples of QF interlining with the rivals of partner airlines (VS, DL, UA, NH, EY, just to name a few).

Interlines don’t mean much.

QF (not OW) also already partners with AF/KLM.

Whilst Lufthansa Group would offer great coverage (with hubs at FRA, MUC, ZRH, FCO, VIE and BRU), I think QFF already has a strong European partner presence with five partners (although two of those don't come with full status benefits), namely AF, AY, BA, IB & KL.

I suspect they would have dissolve the AF/KL partnership if they were to tie up with Lufthansa Group.

For years, you’ve been able to fly QF across the Pacific and back from Asia (or vv) on an LH RTW fare.

Whilst Lufthansa Group would offer great coverage (with hubs at FRA, MUC, ZRH, FCO, VIE and BRU), I think QFF already has a strong European partner presence with five partners (although two of those don't come with full status benefits), namely AF, AY, BA, IB & KL.

Not to mention the plethora of one stop options from Oz into Europe on EK codeshares.

There was some discussion elsewhere that Condor were looking to climb up the value chain a bit more and become more than just a seasonal package holiday flying bus company.

AB intra Europe was somewhere between JQ and VA (without a J cabin) but at least it helped plug some gaps. I got to fly them a couple times. Their longhaul J product look ok.

Very interesting, and exciting. Condor is quite a decent airline with a wide network in Europe, which doesn't require backtracking through LHR/MAD/HEL. Also various routes between Asia/Africa/USA and Europe, and this could open up some good award availability.

It would be even better if Condor joined Oneworld.
