Hi all

Just got a notification of an update to the Qantas Frequent Flyer App for iPhone/iPad. One of the changes was new branding as shown in the update. Anyone seen anything else not topic.

This is for the rather useless FF points calculator App rather than the app that was pulled that actually had some functionality.

They have now included a link to the mobile site to book flights. Something that they perhaps could have put into the app to make it useful...

I noticed this new logo too on the bottom of an Epiqure email from a couple of days ago.

Very nice use of the letters Q and F and the colour Red. Sounds like an episode of Sesame Street (from memory).

Just realized the same thing- love that new logo, very modern and stylish looking!

Then again- the oh so "majorly updated" app is still as useless as before. "Now you can book flights directly out of the app" which turns out to be a link onto Safari is the same kind of over-promise as those frequent flyer "enhancements", those First class "suites" which in reality are big open seats or the "wine cellar in the sky" which consists of six different bottles max (the latter is one of my all-time favorites).

Seems that QF uses a good design-agency but not so good copy writers and even worse inflight safety-video producers. Has been looking like a common theme for a while now :D

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

They make more money out of you accumulating FF points than actually flying which is probably where the app wants you to focus!

EDIT: The app actually says at the bottom of the home page "This app is designed to show Qantas Frequent Flyers ways to earn and use points".

Yep - well aware of that.

QF initially released a clunky little web app that did (badly) a lot of things that a FFer needs an airline app to do. That wasn't further developed. Then with much fanfare this piece of **** was released as a Frequent Flyer App. All it does is calculate where you can go with points and where around you you can earn points. For a real Qantas frequent flyer this is about a useful as a guest pass to Koru lounge.

Compare that to the AA frequent flyer app which lets you check your flights, passbook integration and much more.

Epiqure logo use was just in white - doesn't look as good as the silver version

AA app is amazing, probably better than the CX app too. I was very impressed using it when I was in the US.

Qantas makes much more profit on FF program then it does the flights. Is why they target that market.

Its also a good candidate for divestment. Perhaps the first step in differentiation from the Qantas brand.

It's a little superficial; the appearance is better than its functionality I feel.

Jeeze, hope you are kidding (AJ I think is in the camp diametrically opposed to spinning it off, as opposed to Dixon et al). If you want to know what a 'divested' FF program looks like, have a look at Aeroplan / Air Canada. You could never now call it a 'loyalty' program.

First sign of a spin-off is when i spin myself off from QF.

The old app would only make me login once every month or so... Now, even though I've ticked "remember details", it makes me login every time I open the app... It remembers my surname and FF number, but not the PIN, and it un-checks the "remember details" box each time... Annoying much?

It's not just you...hopefully they fix that.

I'd love the ability to easily make a seat selection from the app

Big problem with the logo of the iPhone app now is that you can't really see it when it's in a folder prior to opening the folder. It blends in with the background too much.
