Op-ups are not always based on status. They are sometimes based on the easiest way to free up a group of seats in the lower cabin in order to arrange for a family/group to sit together. So sometimes its "where you are seated" that is more important than "who you are" when it comes to upgrades.I just dont fathom why Qantas would give op-ups to NB over WP/SG/PS. I remember a colleague that got held up with delays and got to a SQ flight as it was closing, agent took forever to check them in and they asked why, the agent replied that she was looking for someone to upgrade so they could be allocated a seat, my colleague suggested they should get the upgrades and did, despite it being their first SQ flight.
