Hi all :)

Newbie here but a frequent flyer who will be rejoining the skys again very soon.

I'm looking at refreshing my carry on luggage to a hard case. Currently looking at the Qantas branded hard cases but just wondering if anyone has any feedback / suggestions? Probably looking at around $120 mark (obviously in this field a $120 price tag is usually a RRP reduced from $250 haha)

Thanks!
Andy

I've been comparing quite a few polycarbonate carry-ons lately. Since I speak German as well, I often end up reading reviews from German manufacturers too, and "mein Hartschalenkoffer" has almost become my search phrase when I'm looking for durable luggage.
What matters most to me is a sturdy shell, smooth wheels and a reliable TSA lock because airline baggage handling can be pretty rough.

Mrs K and I have been happy with our July CarryOn Pro cases over the past few years. They've been checked in a few times, and have come out unscathed - we do use the covers. July claim to be made from German Polycarbonate, and they're an Australian company so you get local support.

I noticed the July (base model) carry-on can now come with CaseSafe (which is like an AirTag) built into the lock. Sounds pretty nifty addition. Lifetime warranty too.

We continue to use Lojel Cubo (cannot remember if Lite version or not) the smaller case nests inside a larger one - apparently "50% Recycled Polycarbonate + 50% Virgin Polycarbonate Shell". 10 year warranty. For us, they are still going strong well beyond the warranty.

It's a trade off between the two models of the Carryon cases. The basic model has a power bank that can be popped out if your bag is loaded into the back of a Dash8 or Saab340, or checked in. The CaseSafe model, which Qantas have been promoting, gives up the power bank.

Any suggestions for lightweight 2 wheel underseat bags?
I'm a carry-on only, backpack person, but my back has been giving me a lot of grief and I'm exploring alternatives.
The lightest I can find is 1.81kg, Rockland Melrose upright underseater https://www.amazon.com.au/Rockland-Melrose-Upright-Wheeled-Underseater/dp/B0B1PWQJM8 and Lily Bloom underseat tote https://www.amazon.com.au/Lily-Bloom-Design-Pattern-Wheeled/dp/B07K2NBXTX.
Weight then jumps to 2kg: Tosca, TPRC, and American Tourister Applite.
I'm more interested in one black hole for 2-3 changes of clothes, rather than a divided work-style bag.

My trusty 21-year old Samsonite Aeris has made its final trip. Siiiigh! He was an excellent travel partner and carried abusive amounts of stuff at times, be it 29 kg or a box of wine bottles (among all my other stuff for 4-weeks away). Two repairs and many happy miles later the repair shop on Sussex St, Sydney, says now that they can't source parts for it anymore (the axle of the other wheel has snapped in half).

What next? What would you suggest as the next trusty partner?
> Desirable attributes: size = medium (68 cm or near), durable (give me 15-20 years and I'll sign its praises), does not need to expand, weight <= 4 kg, well balanced (for e.g. carrying it up the train station staircases), wheels can take in pavements and other surfaces - it'll get plenty of mileage on footpaths. Budget up to $800.
> Nice to haves: wheel locks (presuming it'll be a 4-wheeler spinner), <3.5 kg, dual-tube handle, <$600, trunk-style opening instead of zipper.

For carry-on, I have Samsonite Paralux but am not convinced I'd want that as the check-in bag. I'm open to other brands and models.

One little but annoying feature with the small Paralux is how unbalanced it is when loaded full - it keeps bumping into your leg when carrying it. That's because the handle is so close to the edge. If the new large one behaves better, that'll be a win.

I bought a July suitcase recently for a 3.5 week trip since I needed a 4th suitcase. It's only done the one holiday but I'm impressed with what it looks like after 4 long haul flights and numerous train journeys, the wheels are good and the zips super smooth.

I bought a model with a built in tracking tag, which also worked well.

I think someone else here uses the brand too and it was their post that put me on to July.
