Hello everyone,

Thought you might be pleased to know what I was told today when passing through CBR...

The second half of the terminal opens on 13 March (Canberra Day), and in it will be the new Virgin Lounge. The Lounge will be 3x the size of the current Lounge. There will also be a "Club" which will be 2x the size of the current Lounge. In total, Virgin will be leasing 5x the current amount of space leased. Looking at the terminal, it looks feasible that it could be opened within ~7 weeks, and speaking with the Virgin rep, he told me the new Lounge looks pretty good.

Of course, there is always the chance things could change - weather and all...but fingers crossed.

Hopefully March 13 sticks for the opening of the new lounge. Would love to use it when I'm down there in mid-March!

So is the "CLUB" the J lounge ????

The QF PUB and J lounge are great and cemented my switch back to QF last year...

The VA lounge in CBR had a shower that made me cringe (old, low pressure, dirty feeling, next to the disabled toilet) plus the lack of food of an evening......

If there is a VA J lounge I'd happily put a few flights back on VA to maintain GOLD for 2014

That's right - the "Club" is the special people's place (not that you aren't special lovestotravel). Showers are an improvement that's happening (something else brought up in conversation). J lounge isn't in the current opening...but perhaps on the cards for the future. Oh, and confirmation now from AusBT Virgin Australia to open new Canberra airport lounges in March - Flights | hotels | frequent flyer | business class - Australian Business Traveller

The date should stick as apparently fitout is in full swing for that date...and I'm booked to SYD-CBR roundtrip on 17 March so fingers crossed! (and yes, there will be pictures)

Well anything is better than the current lounge in CBR

I know I am not special, but a J lounge would have been a very nice addition.... That being said, a little more food in the normal lounge and I'd be happy

I really wouldn't think there is enough demand to justify 3 lounges.
I would have however thought a regular lounge & J/Plat lounge would be a priority over a "club" lounge.
From a Cost/CASK perspective 3 lounges at CBR,MEL,BNE & SYD (at this point in time!) could be difficult.

Would have thought CBR would have more CL / THE CLUB members passing through than any other port

But you go to great lengths to not fly them??

I'd think a fair few "CLUB" potentials out of CBR. And got a response to an email I sent to CBR Airport today indicating that 99% chance the extension to the airport will open on 13 March including the Virgin Lounge (which the airport rep said in her email looked pretty good). I'll be in CBR on the 17th to fly home

I'm flying out of CBR on 14 March so I certainly hope it will be open ;)

Sounds like you'll be the first guest Fifa! We do expect photos.

We'll be in CBR 23,24 & 25th so I'm hoping it's on time!

Further update I nearly forgot about.

Whilst in the lounge in MKY, the lovely angel showed me an email she just received with a CBR lounge photo. It looked pretty finished to me (including nice ceiling like OOL/BNE/MEL) so I gather it will open on time.

Have I mentioned the lounge angels are still VAs premium assets (IMHO)!

One of the crew in CBR yesterday showed me a quick snapshot too. VV nice. And agreed, it looks fairly close to finished to me. They said that the contractors on the entire terminal project are working 24/7 as indeed I saw there today, tradesmen working on a Sunday? Apparently they are under the pump to guarantee the Mar 13th opening date. The ground crew said they love the look of the new terminal for them.

Personally i would like to see some unique features in each lounge, is it identical to the BNE & MEL lounges?
