New J Amenity Kits

New J Amenity Kits - for TG!

Consider yourselves lucky that you got all that in QF.
I recently returned from my honeymoon flying J with TG.
Their kits are old economy kits, you get, socks, eyeshade, toothbrush and paste in small plastic box, lanyard to attach to the tiny nylon bag around your neck, why bother(?). No earplugs, lip balm, moisturiser or shaving kit! None stocked seperately when I asked as well, only different toothbrush sets in the toilets.
And to think that on FT people were complaining that TG were not handing out the kit last year! Oh earphones were the same as Y just that they put small cloth bags over the sponge that say Thai Royal Silk, even though their new J seat, when they actually put you on them, have the fittings for the 3 prong Noise cancelling headphones, they just do not use them.
I will take QF offerings over TG.

Flew QF29 from MEL to HKG on Tuesday night. Correct, no pyjamas on this sector, despite being an 11pm departure. Agree the kits are nothing special and would actually prefer the old ones.

On the topic of amenity kits - does anyone know what the Ultraceuticals "gift valued at $19.95" is? The one you have to e-mail (with proof you travelled in J) to receive?

Cheers,
- Febs.

I hate waste, and I recently threw away about 40 empty kits that I accumulated - shame they couldn't be recycled. The fact is that not much had been used in the flights. Have you ever tried washing the shaving cream off your face in the washroom on a plane? Not much room. Admitedly I do shave in the lounges.

I never use the eye shade, ear plugs, socks, face spray. The large can of shaving cream in the QF kit was great - I haven't had to buy a can for years as it lasts for months. The same for the shaver - good quality. Why bother with the moisturizer - it's normally available in the wash rooms anyway.

My main problem is predictability. I've been caught on flights where they don't include toohpaste and brush, or a comb or shaving gear. Therefore I carry my own just in case.

To me the essentials are toothbrush/paste, shaving gear (for the lounge) and comb. I throw away the rest except the moisturizer which I take home. I'm happy to save the cost of the these items by not being given them.

What about a hair brush / comb. Qantas use to give you one ages ago. There is nothing worse than getting off the plane with bad hair...
I do like the new option of ordering bits that you want but we need a bag to put it all in and hang it off the coat hook.

I flew QF 9 and QF 10 Melbourne - Singapore - Melbourne last week and got the old amenities kit not the new one. I actually use the socks on most trips and always keep the lip balm in my pocket for all trips.... and even manage to get through security checks without putting it in a clear plastic bag.

My cat loves the Y toothbrush :p and will always hop into my suitecase at 6am when I get home to dig it out and play with it.

From what I saw, those on QF10 who had come from London were not using their PJs and most didn't even make it out of the plastic bag.... pity I didn't think of picking up a pair for the mrs.

On request but I like Cords with clip hook. Very usefull for miscilaneous bunches of
keys. Certainly make Car Keys easy to drop into a holder or to find & carry. Cheers > bunyip2
