Looking over the new booking site this morning, it seems there have been some significant price rises on some Flexi legs? My normal Tuesday afternoon BNE - MEL - PER would generally cost around $370, and I'd upgrade to business for the long trip. It now seems the equivalent trip on the VA booking is minimum $613... A $243 increase for the same flight?!?

I appreciate they are offering increased levels of SC's, and probably trying to offset the low entry level ticket costs, but if it remains I can only use my upgrades to go from Flexi to Business I won't be able to use them at these prices.

Bummer!

The issue seems to be that they are pricing connections as the sum of the components. Seems to be widespread although award redemptions don't seem to have suffered the same fate.

It may just be a bug or it may reflect the new structure for SC earn.

Saver to MEL (or SYD) then upgrade MEL(SYD)-PER perhaps?

We still don't know for certain if upgrades are now per sector as well. You may have been hit with a double whammy!

When I have work in Perth I fly via Sydney, upgrade to Business and take the family. I guess I will be looking at flying with another airline when I fly a multi sector and take the family. It was already a big chunk out of my pocket for 2 extra return flexi fares. Now the price increases for the multi sector puts it completely out of reach. Not to mention the possibility of the points upgrade requirement getting enhanced as well. I knew that the sector based SC's didn't bode well. I would prefer to be in a position to take my family. That's worth more than the extra SC's.

The fare increases better be a bug! Some of them are absolutely ridiculous and will make me seriously reconsider my previously fettered loyalty to VA if they stand. What happened to the comment from VA I have read somewhere in the past week that was along the lines of; it's not your fault if we make you travel on an indirect flight?

Personally, a QP membership would provide me with most of the benefits I value and would make me largely indifferent to my choice of carrier.
