I know many fellow AFFers have a penchant for Tumi luggage, which I'd more than happily share with them if I could stomach the price tag - but a step removed, I've always been a massive fan of Crumpler bags, casual as they may look, and am pretty excited to check out their new dedicated luggage range called "Dry Red":

Carry on Crumpler: zipping up a new business deal

Dry Red No. 3

Already invested in a Chester Squander as my laptop/carry-on bag and a Victorinox WT rollaboard, but these are seriously tempting - especially since my coughpy old suitcase popped a zip on the last trip.

The thing I love about Crumpler is that they focus on getting the end-user experience right - I've still got my ancient uni Crumpler bag, still in great nick. I also swear by their camera bags, again a bit on the expensive side, but pretty effective ad durable. Definitely high on my list for my next luggage purchase.

Anyone seen these in store yet?

Must say I like the look of the Dry Red No. 3, looks really practical which alot of roll-a-boards arent.

Very tempted to order one.

Another thing that is quite impressive is that the US and AU prices are identical - while some might say that we're disadvantaged by that due to the higher dollar, at least our tax is included.

Thumbs up on that too, Crumpler - no need to schedule an overseas shopping trip (damn!). :D

Looking around the shops tonight, hopefully will have something to report back.

A big advantage is that all Crumpler's have a lifetime warranty :) :) As long as one uses it reasonably, they'll be covered for any issues, defects for life.

I own a netbook style backpack, called the Yee Ross I think.

I've got a barney rustle blanket and it's great. Ive modified it so that it now slides over my roll aboard and doesn't fall off rather dodgily.

Have a Crumpler 7 million dollar home for my camera equipment... great carry bag that's travelled a fair bit now.

Dry Red looks good - love to see it

Checked out the luggage at myer last night; they look really good! I've got my eye on the wheeled duffle (spring peeper) and thinking it might be worth picking one up when I'm doing some serious shopping in the US in a few months.

made the mistake of showing it to the Mrs. and now she wants one :D

I bought the large Spring Peeper Wheelie bag recently.

Brilliant brilliant bag. Took a good hammering around Europe and came of with barely a mark (just a few around the handle from some bumps and what not)

I own several Crumpler products. Highly recommended!

Which Myer? I called both local Crumpler-stocking Myers (CBD, Chadstone) on Friday and they had no idea what I was talking about - have they since got stock in?

Chadstone; theyve had them for quite a while. They have a table at the front/centre with Crumpler written all over it, but I found the cases on the wall display to the left.

Thanks for that, I was run around the block a bit on the phone with them - will check it out soon. :)

Love Crumpler bags.

I think we have 5 - mostly camera bags (mine) and totes (Mrs MatF's). We took one of each to Europe last year, and both performed extremely well. They're so durable. I have a messenger bag (a Horseman) that's been going with me on my fortnightly trips to Brisbane for work for the last 3 years, and apart from being a bit dirty on the outside, it's still like new.

I think the Spring Peeper has been out for a while?

I like the look of the Dry Red No.3 or No.4. Looks like a good replacement for my poor old Antler soft roller that may not be much longer for this world.

Just to clarify - after a trip to Chaddy, I found that this is not the case. Yes, they have the Spring Peeper and a limited number of other older bags, but they do not stock the Dry Red range, which seems to be limited to the regular Crumpler stores for now.

Will try again at one of those stores and report back.

Bugger, sorry! I was sure I saw the smaller bag, but I might have been a bit distracted (got a whopper of a cold at the moment).

Lol, no worries at all - I should have gone to Crumpler to start with! Fingers crossed will get a look at them this week. :)

Just been into myer at chaddy and they now have dry red no. 3 and 4...

Back in 2004 or 2005 when I was in early days of Uni I got a Dreadful Embarrassment satchel bag after going through a number of no-name brands and having them fall apart. I got it after hearing about Crumpler's legendary durability. It sure as hell has paid off. I still have the bag in daily use to carry my stuff to work and I've abused it more than anyone ever should. The worst that's happened is a bit of fraying of one area of the material where it rubs against my belt and the like.

The bags are also water proof. By that, I mean that I managed to one day burst a can of alcopop RTD in it without noticing by leaning up against the corner of a brick wall. Instead of soaking in to the bag, it pooled in the bottom and soaked some uni notes and my laptop (which thankfully didn't work). I figured that if 375mL of liquid would not even leak out of the bag, then it's pretty safe to have the rain get on it in day-to-day usage.

So yeh, I'm a massive fan of Crumpler and love my bag to bits. They're expensive but they certainly do last!

Hah - that'd be right! I was there earlier today too, but gave up checking back there!

I did check them out at the Crumpler store in the city. Big fan - would have got number 4 straight away were it a tiny bit bigger. Also, number 3 was great but again identical in size to my Victorinox WT, so can't justify it. Would have got the backback (number 5) but thanks to MatF's recommendation I found myself diverted to the Karachi Outpost M which finally gives me a solution to fit all my stuff in a single bag.

Dry Red number 2 looks like a great cabin bag though, so that's probably going to be my first venture into this range, unless one of the other bags breaks.
