New Amex statement credits

... Then I realised that the local Medicare branch had been consolidated with a couple of other ones, and wasn't local at all.
...
Our local Medicare office has been consolidated into the Centrelink office, so now we have to line up with all the dole cheats.

Yes. It was in fact the Centrelink office that I had to go to.

HICAPS = (Private) Health Insurance Claims And Payment System and is a totally different thing to Medicare the (Government funded) healthcare safety net.

Hooray for the Dans offer. Came up on my Plat Edge but not on Amex Connect for the Nab Amex yet.

A new quite unusual offer on my AMEX today. Spend at any participating HICAPS practitioner location to receive a $15 statement credit each time, at up to 3 different locations. Limited to the first 30,000 Cards to register. No minimum spend on the card to get the $15 although I usually find the gap payment is well over $15.

I doubt this offer will be easy to use. Most of my medical practitioners don't accept AMEX and some don't even have HICAPS terminal.

OMG i literally spent at 2 different hicaps locations the past weekend (both on amex) and they were both one off's.

Wish i knew about this 4 days ago

edit : so there's no minimum spend on this?

Yes, my bank details were already registered with Medicare, but the practise didn't have the facility to lodge.

Some GPs do allow an on the spot claim by crediting the benefit on to an EFTPOS card. When they don't, I've found the Medicare mobile app great as you can just take a photo of the invoice and submit the claim. No visit to Medicare office required and no posting off a claim form.

Is this a new development? I'm sure I checked out online claiming recently and it wasn't yet implemented.

Thanks for that tip. I have just downloaded the "Express Plus Medicare" App onto my phone. Now to work out how it works.
