Is it really only $55 for Joe Nostatus to get in for up to 4 hours though? Seems a little cheap-ish. I guess 4 full hours would be hard to do, maybe 2 and bit max given check-in and gate times, but still.

Granted I was in the old temporary Koru in SYD a few months ago, can't wait to try the upgraded one with views of the outside. Great to read that its now open. Was flying J SYD - AKL.
On the way back, I paid Nzd$55 to use the Koru in AKL few months ago. Yes, its Aud/Nzd$55 for up to 4 hours access to Koru.
Seeing everyone has to have their passport dipped into the reader, either DIY/staff assisted at SYD/MEL/BNE, and if staff assisted, checkin opens 3 hours before a flight, so I guess they could time it/limit peoples time in the Koru.
Unless you are in transit.

They look at your boarding pass and subtract 4 hours?

I meant once you are in the lounge do they put a calendar appointment in their computer to pop up after 4 hours and walk to you and ask you to leave???

I think the assumption is that you would be on your plane at 4 hours...
