Hi All

I need some tips and other knowledge on sleeping comfortably on J seats...

The issue I have is always wake up about 2-3 hrs in the sleep because my back's getting too hot... So I roll over to the side and 2-3 hrs later it's too hot... it's just the contact points with the seat that cause an issue...

Anyone else suffer from this? if so is there an easy fix to get the air circulation going?

thanks in advance for any tips and pointers...

I always try to grab an extra blanket or two and use them as a sheet on the "bed".

I find this extra layer helps with softness and makes sleeping easier as I also find them hot.

I guess you have already ensured the vent is open and aimed correctly.

I usually close the vent to be honest... it can trigger my hayfever...

Will try the extra blankets but worried it'd just end up trapping more heat... =/

Unfortunately the only useful thing I've found for sleeping on flights in J is to upgrade to F;)

Unless the flight is on SQ when sleep is not an issue in J.

Do you wear the jammies? With the blankets underneath they may help you cool down.

A few glasses of bubbly, extra blanket as padding on the seat, saline spray for my nose ( I like the gel based ones as they work longer), lip balm. And whenever I wake up I remember all my many trips in whY with a wry neck and being unable to put my shoes on for 2 days as a result ;p

I have the same problem in F awaking up from being too hot so Grumpy I am interested in a solution.

I was lucky enough to upgrade to F from LHR - HKG a couple of weeks ago, and the FAs were suggesting it was too warm to have the blankets on. Taking their advice I didn't cover myself with it and slept quite well.

So from HKG to SYD in J I didn't really cover myself with the blanket, rather sort of slept on it and managed to sleep pretty well until 33 mins until landing.

My theory: jammies and socks, but no blanket unless it is arctic in the cabin.

I get the air vent channeled at my body after I have used Fess Frequent Flyer.I use the PJs and I use a blanket underneath my body. All pretty similar answers and I try to be in First on QF or J and First on SQ.

Whilst not directly answering your quetsion I find the SQ J class the best sleeping experience, although agree that you still get quite warm. Last week I slept without the doona, and have to say I felt pretty refreshed on arrival.

Sleeping on a folded blanket with shoes off is my remedy. Need to keep the back end padded!!

The guys here have it sorted.

Jamies, socks, cotton, lay on blanket, take drugs, slurp booze, take memory foam little travel pillow, earcplus over NC phones, and have a busy day beforehand, shower and eat at club. A light classical music also?

Have things ready should you stir, easier to get back to sleep. Melatonin at bedtime also, three short and three long acting.

Sleep forward of cabin away from coughper or galley.

So sleeping in Y will be almost impossible. I need to find a good chemist who will give me the non prescription drugs so I can sleep in Y. :(

But thanks for the tips if I ever make it to J.

Noise cancelling headphones always a must.

Or just go to the docs for a prescription?

I'm a bit spoiled, I'm pretty good at sleeping anywhere. But half a benzo tablet will make sure of that :D

And don't forget that when sleeping on the QF Skybed Mk I you need to pack he Velcro underwear to stop slipping down and ending up in a ball under the seat in front.

If your tired enough you will find a way!

Regarding sleeping aids look up Restavit. I believe it's the Australian equivalent to Unisom (US). It's very mild and I don't think you need a prescription.

See here.. Restavit Tablets 20 (max of 2 per order) Product Details - Chemist Australia Online pharmac_

If worst comes to worst PM me and I will share my Unisom :p

This suggestion may get flamed down by the docs on board;), but it worked wonders for me last midnight horror.

A few Chivas/<insert preferred booze here> in the club before hand, and a few Night Cold and flu tablets just as you board works a treat.

This was in Y, so I was happy for the sleep.

Bundy, melatonin is available in supermarkets & drugstores in the US, on the shelves. My uncle also used to pick it up from the pharmac_ at SIN airport years ago, not sure if this is still possible.
Still got to get to those places ...

Melatonin is also widely available in Oz at compounding chemists.
There has been a Cochrane review on it's use in preventing jet lag.
I use it frequently long-haul.
