Narrowing of benefits between WP and 'lesser' elite levels

Last time I was in BKK the F lounge was pretty quiet, think there was about 11 people there max, revious visits to the J lounge it was often very hard to get a decent seat. And also the money bags were very nice. Don't remember getting those in the J lounge.

What the money bags? I have been to F in BKK a few days ago and not noticed.

LOL this whole thread. I'm staggered/amazed people can get so worked up and emotional about such trivia as frequent flyer programme benefits/lack thereof! It's commercial air travel, not the health system!

LOL this whole thread. I'm staggered/amazed people can get so worked up and emotional about such trivia as frequent flyer programme benefits/lack thereof! It's commercial air travel, not the health system!

If this post were perhaps in a forum on an angling website I might agree with you, however as this, by its very name, is a frequent flyer website, I would suggest that many people here are going to care about the provision of frequent flyer benefits. :)

Very true. I used to not give a stuff about all the benefits associated with FF programs. But when you have to travel a hell of a lot, as I do these days, it becomes very important. If you go on the occassional overseas holiday, you can put up with a lot. But when you do it for a living you get sick of the sardine/cattle mentality that modern air travel has become. I recently had to do a little sector overseas on an airline not affiliated with OW, and I had a ticket in Y. Was a shock to me to arrive at an airport and suddenly have to stand in the long Y queue. Have never considered myself a snob or elitist, quite the contrary, but it suddenly brought back to me that travelling Y and status-less is absolute cough. And if you are doing the miles, and spending the cash, you do want to be looked after. Same in any business. If you were buying a new car every month from your local Ford dealer you would expect to get a bit better service than someone rocking in for their 5 or 10 yearly car upgrade. I think. :)

It's funny I used to think the same, but now I am often faced with the situation of not having status on the airline I am travelling (even though I hold both star alliance and oneworld gold), usually flights in China, Philippines, Indonesia or the like, and surprisingly, once you develop a coping mechanism I actually can find quiet, comfortable spots in most airports, near a power pt for the laptop - and often free wifi , buy my own food and bev if needed and there are even a couple ways of avoiding queues [later arrival, internet checkin]. And surprisingly I often find it easier to get exit rows in these situations, even though only 6', being taller than most local travellers helps.
