newby alert! Hi all
looking to fly with the wife and infant from moscow to brisbane via tokyo. we've been away for awhile, but I've kept up my QFF (silver) and QC. my questions are, will I be able to get the bride and infant (6mths) into the lounge (?partner jal) as guests? and secondly the qf direct flight appears to be a jal, has anyone any comments on that flight? or do you think i should take the "real" qf via sydney with the idea of trying for a points upgrade to business?
cheers

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

The Narita-BNE leg of the flight is a QF codeshare flight on JAL metal, so full QF rules should apply in theory.

So, yes, you should be able to get partner into lounge with your QC membership - and the lovely Japanese girls on the desk are not going to deny your baby entry. Same QF rules should apply for upgrades on Codeshare flights (or am I about to be told otherwise....)

So don't go via Syd.
The JAL flight is OK, at least as good as the fodder dished up by QF - can't remember the IFE on that JAL flight though.

You are about to be told otherwise; you are only able to upgrade on flights which are both marketed by and operated by Qantas

Hi redroo and welcome to AFF :D .

I've done the direct JAL NRT-BNE plenty of times though not in the last two years. Can't remember IFE either :( . IIRC it's a good overnight flight with a decent arrival time. Personally can't remember anything bad on any of these flights which is a good thing. Never done the NRT-SYD leg so can't comment.

Last time I did NRT-BNE was on QF 767-300 via CNS. There was two of us in the J cabin, but the back of the b*s was quite full. So that flight would have had a very good chance for a points upgrade, but alas it has gone from the schedules now.

As a Silver FF member, I would not be routing the long way on the hope of securing an upgrade. Take the flight that meets your timing desires. But if you want/need the extra SCs, then via SYD is a good option.

On the QF flight via SYD you may get a choice of flight and aircraft type. Note that the 767 may give you the option of 2 seats together with a bassinet for the bub, while the 743 will be a 3 or 4 seat block with the bassinet so you might have some close neighbours for the flight.

CNS is not a bad place to break the journey so long as you cna stay on the same flight number - changing to a domestic flight in CNS is not going to be good experience with a baby in tow.

Avoid the JAL flight like the plague - fly through Cairns for qantas flights. You'll also get more status credits in the process.

Hey Sammy,

Could you please explain why you would avoid the JAL flights "like the plague". I have flown JAL and QF several times recently BNE-NRT-BNE, and have found JAL's service to be far superior.

I'll reserve judgement on your comments until I see your response (and then I'll know)....

Bye for now,
cliffie.
