NAB Platinum insurance - is YQ from reward flights included in required $500 amount

I was reading through the wording on the eligible charges of $500 in order to get comp travellers insurance for Virgin NAB Platinum. Does anyone think that YQ (taxes and surcharges) from a reward flight would count towards this $500 required.
I can see that it excludes the points its self but what about the YQ. Any ideas?

Yes any $$$ spend on the trip related items and so yes all fees on an award ticket would count including YQ.

care! it may say any spend *before* you depart. This might affect some people who book hotels through the likes of Agoda that do a pay later or even pay at the hotel scheme.
One important note also from NAB is that any payment through Paypal does NOT count.
