NAB acquires Citibank Aus

NAB offering the chance to win a $3,000 Webjet e-gift card or a $250 Visa e-gift card for activating the replacement NAB Visa Debit card and using it for everyday purchases with no minimum spend required.

the NAB replacement for Citi seems to have good FX rates. Used the NAB card in SG recently and 1SGD cost me 1.14AUD when market rate was 1.13AUD (i.e. Google search)

Was that purchase or taking cash from atm? I assume the debit card?

Not so silly question but are the old and new cards/accounts operating in parallel?

ie if I activate the new card, is the old Citi card still active?

You just received the txt saying my cards in the post. Probably arrive today. I can also see the new card in the NAB app to activate it.

I have an OS trip booked for Feb/Mar. There’s a chance I might be able to squeeze a little extra out of Citi that the NAB card may or may not do (waiving ATM fees).

Yes, they will operate in parallel until the Citibank accounts are closed late February. Any funds still in the Citi account will be transferred then

If you have not transferred your funds from the Citibank Plus Transaction Account to your NAB Classic Banking account on or before 23 February 2024, we will transfer those funds for you on 24 February 2024.

Your Citibank Plus Transaction Account and Citi Debit Mastercard will be closed on 24 February 2024, and the NAB Classic Banking account and NAB Visa Debit card will continue.

Yep, totally aware of what the new card comes with - basically the same as my UBank and ING - sans hoops and jumps.

But the Citi card still has the magic words that waive local ATM fees as applicable. I’m assuming the NAB card will not be recognised the same way. eg Citi ATM in the USA.

Also received text that mine is in the mail.
Must install NAB app as I don't have any other NAB products.

I have a Citibank plus account. It has my correct current address. I am aware this is to be migrated to NAB.

I don’t have a NAB account but previously had a NAB credit card which was closed in early 2018. I was living at a different address then.

On Saturday I received a SMS form NAB.
Greeted me by my Christian name and advised they had sent a new debit card to my former address suburb that I would receive in 5-7 days.
Suggested I could use internet banking immediately.

I thought this was a scam but there was no link.
I was concerned that I may have been a victim of identity theft.

Phoned NAB this morning.
Turns out that the SMS was genuine but they were using my details from closed NAB credit card account not details from Citi.
They suggested they could redirect mailed card (that they had already supposedly sent to me).
I requested they cancel the debit card sent to wrong address and issue a new card to correct address. Staff member apologised, put a stop on the card, updates my address details and advised I would receive new issue card by priority mail to correct address.
I had the same issue + more. Not only was an old Australian address but also the tax details (Australian tax resident / TFN) from my old NAB account from over 10 years ago.

Citi have my current UK address and foreign tax residency details, but NAB decided to override it with their own outdated information instead.

Spent about an hour on the phone with NAB getting it fixed up.

Hopefully doesn't flag anything with the ATO...

Hmmm - I have a Diners card and seperste NAB loan accouunts. All these accounts are shoeing my current address. However NAB are sending letters sent to my old address telling me the Diners card is no longer being offered and cancelled from next year.

Same this happened to me too. Had to get debit card sent to old house cancelled, and new one issued.

Hmm I cancelled my citibank account a few weeks ago, but a NAB card just turned up in the mail ... does that mean I have to try to call them to cancel that too I wonder?

Yes, if that’s what you want to do.

Probably easier to walk into a branch if that’s practical.

I've just cancelled both Citi and NAB. It wasn't until I got the NAB card that I realised that it was a Visa. (This was NOT a fault with NAB. Entirely my fault for overlooking where it was painly and often stated that the NAB would be a Visa.) Already having a couple of Visa cards, a minor reason for having the Citi card was because it was MasterCard.

Cancelling the Citi was easy. Emptied the account and rang them. After some explaining and verifying, the account was closed and will be cancelled completely in a couple of days. Seven minutes in total.

I went to a NAB branch to close the NAB account. Spoke to the "greeter" who asked me to take a seat and told me that someone would be with me shortly. Fifteen minutes later with not a thing happening - not even a "sorry to keep you waiting" - I gave up and left, pointing out that their sign along the lines of "We respect you, please respect us" was rubbish.

I tried doing a chat session through the NAB app, and after the initial toing-and-froing, had to wait for 1 hour 22 minutes until a person got to me. And they told me that they couldn't cancel the NAB account, implying that it could only be done in February, when the funds had been transferred over from the Citi account. I replied and said that both accounts were empty.

Another 20 minutes of silence, then someone from NAB's Citi Migration team came onto the chat and said they could close the NAB account. After giving me warnings about the benefits I would lose by closing the account, and yet another 20 minutes of silence, they did set the process in motion.

I've cut up the cards, and opened a BankWest (MasterCard) account.

[I've had a moan about it. I feel better now. <g>]
