Hi All,

I am coming up to my first 'F' Class experience (FASA) next week QF1 to Singapore for the F1 GP.

Currently booked on QF517 ex BNE (10:25) departure, should arrive in SYD at 12:00.

QF1 scheduled to depart 16:10 from SYD.

My questions are :-

1) Should I try and get an earlier flight from BNE to get to SYD a bit earlier to have some lunch at the 'F' restuarant?

2) Will I still get a call from the 'F' concierge to book a spa appointment?

3) Anything else I should know to get the most from my experience.

Being WP I have used the 'F' lounge a few times, but have only usually had an hour or so in it, so no chance for a massage or meal. I usually just have a glass of Champagne and thats about it, so I would really like to make the most of this visit, especially seeing as this one is for pleasure and not for work.

Cheers.

You should be called the day before - you can book a spa treatment then.

The QF1 flight will commence boarding about 3:30pm.

The transit bus departs from near gate 1 every 20 minutes in the after noon, so you should get to the lounge by 1:00pm.

That gives a useful period of 2:30 to enjoy the facilities.

Note that "lunch" is actually the "all day dining" (PM) menu.

Posted on a wing and a prayer ...

it's my opinion that the spa treatment is not really worth it, but if you have the time why not? I always grab the slightly earlier flight from BNE so I can soak up the flounge atmosphere and sample some nice cuisine.

That is excellent news Foxxy as your FASA is the current pinnacle when flying on Qantas.
If you are anxious you could call them using the WP number to ensure a booking time that suits you.
I have seen folks without bookings get turned away in both Melbourne and Sydney so you should consider a booking as a must have.

The spa treatment can be ok if you like that sort of thing (I don't). Last time my partner had one the girl massaged her so roughly she had enormous bruises for the next 4 days!

I used to think the spa treatment was a girl thing and used to decline the offer. I am now at YES as Mrscove told me she loved it.

Congrats on the your First First. I really do think the QF F experience is fantastic. I think 2 1/2 hours is plenty of time - you can spend a bit too much time and if like me you like a glass of wine you can end up on board a little "sleepy" so you don't get to enjoy the flight as much as you could...

Re the massage - I had one booked when I flew F to HKG but the traffic was a little bit worse than expected and as I wasn't confident having a massage (I generally dislike being touched by other people under any circumstances - except bizzarely when getting a head massage as the hair dressers - but I digress) I cancelled the massage. One day I will bite the bullet and get a massage...

This is a good prompt for me to flex the writing muscles and draft up a TR on my F experience...

Enjoy Foxxy I try to tast every champagne, if they have the Duck curry it's just wonderful, as for the spa it's free it's a nicest start to any trip, as airline spas go I think it's the best I've tryed to date.

The one thing I would say, and it's not in regards your booking. However if you book an FASA and your not on Qantas metal you do not get a call from Qantas.

I thought all ASAs had to be on QF or JQ metal?

2 to 3 hours is probably enough time, but I usually try to allow a 4 hour gap, just so I am not rushed. I love the spa treatments and always get one where ever they are offered. I finally talked Mr FM into one in June at the F lounge in Sydney, and he enjoyed it, but I wouldn't say he would be rushing to have another one. The F hosts are very good about contacting you to book a treatment the day before, so I wouldn't worry too much. We ended up playing telephone tag in June (I hate mobiles and am very bad with them) and the number to phone back had a TAD on, so I just left a message saying what sort of treatment I wanted and what time and they booked me in.

I found the food and wine was very nice on the flight, so don't fill up too much in the lounge. If you like champagne, the vintage Taittinger on the plane is really good.

Thanks for that - I assume then then that very high priced ASAs are where QF actually buys a heavily discounted seat from another airline. I wonder why they are then calls Qantas and Jetstar Any Seat Awards?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I think it's due to the use of QFF points.

In any case I have seen JASA's offered on the LAN SYD/AKL flights under the QF codeshare in D class.

Telephone Answering device - really old fashioned things.... You would probably say Voice mail now.

Interestingly I found the Tattinger on board a little earthy.
I am a huge convert - first time I have had the Comtes de Champagne. I now have a bottle in the wine cellar courtesy of my lovely FA, waiting for a special evening with Mr FM. ;)

Aha - I would have said "answer phone" - Answering machine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - I am old enough to remember phones that had dials on them ;)

I must find a way to sample a little more ;)

The masseur at MEL F lounge earlier this year (a very large lady apparently) managed to actually fall asleep on my other half mid-massage. As in physically slumped on her and closed the peepers!

Anyway, good luck with the F flight Foxxy, can only concur with most of what has been said.

If your inbound to SYD is on time you should have plenty of time
QF should ring you the day before to book massage if wanted (I'm not a massage person but each guest I've taken in has enjoyed their session - spontaneous sleepers excepted). If they don't, then call them.
Eat a good lunch first up if possible, ensuring time to 'regroup' for the tasting menu on the flight

Love the spa!
Love the restaurant!
Knock yourself out and enjoy! :)

Don't eat too much in the F restaurant unless you want to miss the F tasting course on board QF001 :D

Okay here is my advice:

1) Call the F Lounge in advance (number is here
9691 2172)
2) Get to F Lounge ~3 hours ahead of time
3) Eat two starters and a desert
4) Get onboard
5) Get tasting menu and tell flight attendant to leave plenty of time between courses
6) Go for a walk to walk it off (up to Business, along the upper deck, down the rear stairs, through whY, back through into the F sanctuary)
7) On your walk make sure to wear your slippers so you don't get the diseases from the great unwashed (sarcasm if you didn't realise)
8) Book another trip and do it all again :D
