Hi experienced travellers; We (older citizens x 3) are travelling to Italy mixed class in July. Our 1st leg is Syd to HK with VA (economy) then over to Swiss (business) from HK to Rome via Zurich. Can anyone tell us how we do the transfer in HK, can we trust that our bags will arrive in Rome when we do, and should we carry a change of clothes onboard just in case? Thanks heaps guys - a bit scary this posting stuff a bit like being a 1st time flyer :).

Welcome aboard Flanjam1, hope to see you posting a lot as you travel and tell us about your adventures.

A few questions there that the relevant experts will address as the day goes on. But one question for you: Is it one ticket for the whole trip or different tickets for different legs?

It will make a difference to the responses.

I always carry some clothing and toiletries in my carry-on. You never know whether your checked bags are going to make it with you, even point-to-point.

Hello again folks and thanks to those who have already responded. It certainly seems to be one ticket, issued by Swiss.

Since the switch to Sabre, the interline checking process should go smoothly for you with VA and your bags will be tagged to your final destination. A friendly reminder to the check in agent about your onward sectors wouldn't go astray either.

Happy travels!
